View Full Version : question about bent over row
So I know I have to keep my back straight, but I noticed that sometimes I make my back "more than straight". I think this is called hyperflexion.
Basically my back makes slightly a V. Is this bad and should I really flex core & back muscles to maintain a straight back?
Thanks

straight back. i think hyperflexion(if thats what its called) can lead to back problems and injuries just like bending your back. and yes, flex and tighten core and back muscles and when you are at the top, you wanna get a good squeeze w/ your back muscle.

the hyper flexion wont last long, use a weight that you can manage and use the mirrors in the gym to aid you in getting the feel for the move, once you have it try closing your eyes to focus your mind on your lats and mid back..

This might sound like a dumb question but you are bending your knees, right?

Well, it was directed at the OP, but I can see the potential for ambiguity. :)
yep I am bending my knees! Trying to get form good at the moment, last thing I want is an injury again.
Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Sounds like you have decent posture. It should be flat but a little hyperextension is nothing to worry about.

paranoia leads us to keep our backs so straight as to sometimes create hyperextension... your form usually sorts itself out after a few weeks when you get into a groove per se
