I was wondring how you people like having your shankes?
When I mix mine and only use a spoon the powder clusters together and I dont know it its fully effective when its in that state.
Or if I blend it together it ends up being frothy and I have to wait about an hour before it more solid and drinkable.
So what ways do you guys put your together

I bought one of those flasks that has a kinda removable sieve built into the top, so you can add the powder, milk or water put on the sieve and lid and shake it, the sieve then breaks down the powder and prevents it from clogging ;-)

My local supplement store gives me a free new "shaker" whenever I buy whey. Its a large cup, with a snap on lid. Works perfectly.

One of two methods, depending on circumstances:

* Add ~50g of protein to ~300ml milk. Stir and drink. Lumps or clustering wont reduce it's effectiveness in any way. It all gets broken down in the stomach anyway.

* Shove spoonful of dry protein powder into gob. Wash down with mouthful of water. Repeat until I feel like I've had enough.

Sometimes I blend a big one if I want to fling in bananas, chocolate powder, yoghurt, nuts, honey, etc. You can drink it when it's frothy too - it's no big deal.

Pint glass + Hand whisk. No lumps and minimal froth, depending on your brand. Pretty easy to wash too as long as you don't leave it for hours.

alot of people that come into my store do this, and i guess, it takes a lil bit of getting used to..if its an mrs in a package, they'll do it in like thirds(pour a third in their mouth and drink water, etc.) and if its like a jug w/ scoops, they'll take in one scoop at a time and split it up to make it a lil easier. i'd never be able to do it, i tried it once and almost died.

The trick is to not breathe, either in or out, while it's in your mouth. In - it goes into your lungs, out - it comes out of your nose. I did it with a mouthful of leucine once (a very light fine powder) and lost half of it to the carpet. :D

I get 4 ice cubes, a cup or so of milk, add the protein, and blend. Comes out pretty well.

I was wondering, would it be ok if I put my creatine in there as well? Or would there be some bad interaction?

This is totally fine. Perfectly acceptable. I do it myself sometimes.

It's funny you should ask. Just about a month ago, I happened upon an awesome little mixing gadget that I've been using with seriously amazing results. I really wish I'd have found one of these things earlier in my shake-making days.

The most I've mixed up at once was about 20 ounces of milk and 2 scoops of protein powder with no problem.

The funniest part is that I'm serious. :D

No, it's just often the most convenient way. If I'm sitting at my desk I don't always want to be fiddling with shakers and milk, and then running to the kitchens to wash it out afterwards.

I keep a small tub of protein at work, and occasionally spoon some in and wash it down with my tea.

ugh, the tea part sounds not good....

and protein + creatine sounds fine. some people have tolerance issues w/ creatine tho, and add that w/ the lactose that might be in your whey protein(i love lactose free protein!) and if you have any problem w/ the 2, or maybe both, you won't like it. but, thats the only thing that can be negative.

I use half and half with 12 egg whites and 3 scopps of milk and egg protein powder in a blender and it tastes delicious, cant drink the entire shaker in one go though as I balloon up very quickly

Might want to watch out for biotin deffeciency by eating all those eggs. As it can inhibit muscle growth to a significant degree. Gotta cook your eggs.

History

Biotin was first recognized as an essential nutrient factor in mammals in 1936. Ten years earlier, the inclusion of large amounts of raw egg whites in experimental diets in rats had produced symptoms of toxicity within a few weeks of the diet being initiated. In 1926, Boas referred to these symptoms of toxicity as egg-white injury syndrome. The major findings included severe dermatitis, loss of hair, and lack of muscular coordination. Boas also noted that yeast, liver, and several other foodstuffs contained a substance that protected rats from egg-white injury syndrome. Later, the protective compound in the foodstuffs was identified as biotin. Biotinidase deficiency was discovered in 1982.

The biochemical basis for egg-white injury syndrome was quickly elucidated when raw egg whites were found to contain the glycoprotein avidin, which has a remarkable affinity for biotin. Once a biotin-avidin complex forms, the bond is essentially irreversible; the biotin-avidin complex is not broken during passage of the food bolus through the stomach and intestines. As a result, biotin is not liberated from food, and the biotin-avidin complex is lost in the feces. The final step in solving the mystery of egg-white injury syndrome was the demonstration that the syndrome could be prevented by heating the egg whites, a process that denatures avidin and destroys its affinity for biotin.

I use a hand blender to mix my stuff up - it's SO much easier than a big blender and I really hate lumpy shakes. I usually put 2 scoops of protein in a pint of skimmed milk and - depending on the shake in question (breakfast, pre-workout, bedtime) - I'll pop in stuff like ultra-fine oats (the ones from Myprotein are the greatest things ever), creatine, flax seed powder or some powdered stuff called Nutrasprout which has all the good stuff from broccoli with none of the vile taste

I use the magic bullet. Its like a mini blender without the mess.
I make a good 3-4 shakes a day and keep them in the fridge.

so, prophet, if you don't cook the eggs, your body doesn't absorb the biotin?

good post, i always cook my eggs anyway and eat whole eggs. i was always warned about food poisoning in eggs.

also, the magic bullet rocks.
