So the last 2 or so months i have been working out quite hard and i have been pleased with the results so far. I started out around 153 and i am now about 161-2. I have been doing usually a 5 day split and it has worked well so far but i really wana get up to 170 as fast as possible. New split is gonna be 3 days. I will go with chest, back and legs. Might take a day off might not. I figure i will hit the bi's on back, tri's on chest and might do shoulders on legs. My plan for chest is to totally get rid of barbell exercises. I am gonna do dumbells only. Barbell messes with my mind too much, i worry way to much about what i did last time and what i am doing now, i worry about how much weight is on and its too much. Dumbells i just grab something and go up or down, what ever feels right. Just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions on things to work into my workouts and things to eat that will help with gaining weight. I do wana get up to 170 but i don't want to gain 7 pounds of fat. I will post updates on how things are going if people are interested.

Er... why not just write down what you did last time, and use barbells? That way you can (probably) lift more weight. and more weight = more intesity which is vital for building mass.

and eat more protein! ;)

if you think you cant lift it before you go for the pull/push, chances are you wont...

i have lifted sometimes 5-10kg more on a lift for 6 reps by thinking it was my weight from last week only to realise i got it wrong... lets you know how much your mind plays 'safety net'

Youre in a similar postition to me. I want to get to 170 pounds as well. But I started at 124lbs and am now 150ish. I think you need to start keeping a progress log for the gym. And some sneaking suspiscion tells me that if you concentrated on making your bench, squat and deadlift numbers go up as big as possible, and made sure your nutrition was spot on, that 170 pound goal would not be to far away.

So you've gained 8-9 pounds in the last 8 weeks. The only problem is you're being impatient. If you're really worried about fat gain, then limit your gains to about a 1/2 pound a week.

Remember...tearing yourself down in the gym does little if you're not eating enough to cause hypertrophy.

Go to www.fitday.com and track your kcals if need be to start gauging on how much you're really consuming.

I don't get why the bbs mess with your head and the dbs don't. The body doesn't recognize what sort of weighted implement you're using and neither should you...weight is weight. Eat enough, increase your numbers steadily and you'll get bigger.

Don't worry too much about fat gain. It is very easy to lose fat. You should expect to get up to 180lbs or more and drop to 170lbs.

especially when you gain 10+ lbs of muscle, trimming down the extra fat won't be hard at all.
