Ok...after months of trying to get my tonsils under control, I have to get them removed. On August 31 I go under the knife/laser and get my tonsils removed for good. I'm 25 and it's the last thing I want to be doing, but if I don't, I'm going to have sore throats for the rest of my life, and be sicker than I already am. I've had a surgery before and I know there's always a risk going into a situation like this. I won't be able to talk for about 1 week and can't work/workout for 2 weeks.
Please, pray for me if you pray...if you don't pray, keep me in your thoughts. In all honesty, I'm scared to death. Wish me luck.

Michelle,
I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you make a speedy recovery. I've not had mine removed, but from what I understand it's a pretty simple routine operation.

Thanks!
I'm more scared about the aftermath than anything. I have heard the pain afterwards is horrible for a couple weeks.

Good luck, but you will be fine! I had mine out when I was 17 (the hot summer after I had finished exams and stuff!!!) after more or less having constant tonsilitis for about 3 years. Yes,it was quite uncomfortable for a couple of weeks but this was helped with painkillers and plenty of fluids ,it calmed down then and my life was transformed as I wasn't ill all the time .
Hope you recover quickly :)

Interestingly, removal of adenoids and tonsils have been shown to help alleviate ADHD.
Best of luck in all things.

All in all the surgery is pretty straight forward, the problem is the sorethroat afterwards. Your sore throat is going to be the biggest pain, the key is not to baby it. It used to be just ice cream, liquids, and jello after a tonsillectomy, however that has changed and you can pretty much whatever you want (except food with changed edges, they usually use cautery or stiched when they take them out, so you don't want anything that would interfer with that).... also motrin and a little vicoden never hurt either!!! Should be as good as new in about a week. You'll be fine!!

Thanks for the encouragement. Heck, I've had sore throats since I was 18...I think after August 31, one more week isn't going to kill me. I'm waiting to see what kind of pain killers they actually give me...
