Just suffered a PVD, one to many bangs to the head caused stars, flashing lights and a few floaters. Not good, apparently its where the jelly in the eye detaches from the retina, if it gets stuck and unable to seperate fully it can cause a retinal detachment; big problem for any body in Contact sports. Anybody else had one of these, if so what were you advised.
I rather think at 47 that my fighting days are over; too risky

Have you seen a doctor. It is vitally important that you get it seen by a qualified ophthalmologist as soon as possible to prevent visual loss. Flashing lights are a bad sign - they are an indicator of retinal detachment. Retinal detachment can only be treated surgically.

Certainly have, it was straight to A and E and then to the Eye Clinic; didn't waste any time. PVD was the diagnosis and not a Retinal Detachment. Their view, continue with the Martial Arts but retire from fighting. I'm 47, had a good innings on the fighting front; dissapointed at having to give it up

Which art did you compete in? Maybe look into an art where competing doesn't involve intentionally hitting the head?
