Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good TKD or even just Martial Arts movies that I need to see. They don't have to be like all Bruce Lee style or anything, I mean I like the Karate Kid, lol. I just wanna see more martial arts, especially TKD related movies. Any ideas?

Ummm... Bruce Lee was Jeet Kune Do, for TKD find Chuck Noris videos. The quality might be debatable as the "movie version" of martial arts are differet from the "real deal".

I know Bruce Lee was Jeet Kune Do...all i meant was that I'm not looking for just martial art movies, I wanna see movies with martial arts in them, Thanks for recomending Chuck Norris, I've seen sidekicks (lol, that's what I'm talking about) but I havent seen any other ones. I'll check em out. I dont care about the movie martial arts thing, i know a lot of it is kind of cheesey, but I enjoy the movies. Thanks again, talk to ya later.

Drunken master, it's top. The Bad guy is Hwang Jang Lee, he does Kung Fu, but it looked like TKD to me, totally fly.

and the good guy is Jackie Chan, sort of. The character is a bit of an A-hole really.

lots of drunken boxing tomfoolery.

If you want more than just kicks, 'Best of the Best (1)' has a decent story line with known actors. Also, actually has TKD in it.

Return of the dragon - If you don't have this, SHAME on you! :D

I'd recommend -

Fearless hyena, Jackie Chan

Simply the good ol' cheesy kung fu movie, there's a heck of a lot of comedy, some a bit silly

But the fights are very entertaining, the stick fight with James Tien, a chopsick fight, the training etc the last fights are very long and good, I would definitelyrecommend it!!!

The himalayan - Ten Tao Ling [or something like that]

This one is fantastic, the hero's kicks just can't be missed, kicks like a pro, has excellent leg balance, he's an instructor of TKD in real life.

The training scenes can be sometimes be boring but the fights and plot are definitely above average

Once upon a time in china - Jet Li

Loads of acrobatics, limber hips the lot, a must have for Jet Li fans!

Also look out for movies starring Yuen Biao like the pordigal son, knockabout, Project A etc, the guy's known for his flexibility and acrobatics!

If I remember any good one I will get back to you :D

TKD Movies??

Well if you can locate it....

"When Taekwondo Strikes" ..... classic 1973 film on DVD or VHS from Crash cinema, staring none other than Jhoon Rhee and Angela Mao. The picture quality isn't too good due to Golden Harvest not looking after the master print, ... reminiscint of the early 1970s Kung Fu films revolution.

My favourite is Fist of Legend, with Jet Lee. It's a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury - it is WIKID!

Some of my favorites:

"Billy Jack" for Hapkido
end of "Lethal Weapon (1)" was pretty good
"Hunted" - lousy movie but really good fight scenes
"Passenger 57" - Wesley Snipe's fight scenes are usually really good.
again "Best of the Best" for TKD
"Perfect Weapon" pretty decent fight scenes...
I'll try to think of some others.

Looks like I was right first time about Hwang Jang Lee, he does do TKD. He's Korean, though he was born in Japan to korean parents, they then moved back to korea where he studied TKD

I know there's an old film from the 70's called when taekwon do strikes - Grandmaster Rhee is in it. Have never actually watched it but check it out on IMDB.com

As mentioned, the whole Best of the Best series features taekwondo and hapkido. Performed by (if I'm not mistaken) former Olympic taekwondo competitors Phillip and Simon Rhee. (I know it's the Rhees; less sure about the Olympic thing.)

I've seen When Taekwondo Strikes. Not a bad flick.

Look for stuff with Loren Avedon as well. The movies are atrocious. (That's not a criticism in my opinion. :) ) But Avedon is an accomplished taekwondoka, and it shows. Look for King of the Kickboxers (him versus taekwondoka Billy Blanks) and No Retreat, No Surrender 2 (him and Cynthia Rothrock versus Matthias Hues and Hwang Jang Lee, the aforementioned Korean superkicker).

I love The Prodigal Son, also the first Matrix and the two Bourne films (Identity and Supremacy). As a rough guide for finding good MA movies stick to anything emblazoned with that stamp of excellence, "Hong Kong Legends." In this collection you will find all the archetypal MA movies as well as some unknown but equally good films. They are online too, just go Google. :D

I'm a bit biased, but check out SURF NINJAS starring Ernie Reyes,Jr. and Ernie Reyes, Sr. Its more of a kid's movie, but it actually has a plot and some real actors in it. The martial arts scenes are very good. Also, the fight between Ernie,Jr. and the Duane "the Rock" Johnson in last years THE RUNDOWN is outstanding.(No camera tricks or wires for the fight, that's just Ernie).

Got to be one of the final fight scenes on Jackie Chan's "Who am I?" The guy with the kicks is Ron Smoorenberg. Also a good kicking scene is Revenge of the Drunken Master when Jackie Chan fights his personal bodyguard Ken Lo

In the last year or so there have been a couple of martial arts based movies released in Korea.

The first one is Dollyeo Chagi (turning kick or roundhouse kick) about a boys high school taekwon do team. basically aimed at the teen audiences because it stars a singer from a Korean boy band.

The other one is called Fighter in the Wind. This movie claims to be about the life of Masutatsu Oyama (Choi Baedal) but employs a great deal of license in the telling.

I saw the first one with my taekwon do school one day. Imagine about 80 Korean kids wandering down to the local cinema with one tall foreigner in their midst. (The cinema was about 5mins walk from the dojang). I understood the basics of the story even without subtitles and through my limited Korean.

Fighter in the Wind is a Kyokushin Karate movie.. It's about Mas Oyama. There is no TKD in it.. But that's a very great movie anyways!

I recently viewed Ong Bak - The Thai Warrior. It's not TKD but the stunts and the fight sequences are truly awe inspiring! Even during the slow mo scenes you know that there is medium to full contact in some of those moves. If you are looking for it, It is currently at the theatres here in North Americe but it was actually released in Thailand back in 2002 and you can pick it up in most video stores in Asian Malls.

All TKD?? After Best of the Best 2, Phillip Rhee starts to show off more of his Hapkido side. Kicks aside, it's pretty much Hapkido there on out.

Man, I wish TKD had those sparring rules. That rolling takedown from BOTB is classic.

most later Bruce Lee films included an absolute plethora of martial arts styles, TKD included.
and thanks to its western appeal TKD appears in most action films from hollywood. ie tomb raider, mission impossible 2 etc. the stuntworkers and choreographers are all TKD trained as it "looks good on camera". good thing or bad thing?

Blood sport 2 and 3 have Grandmaster Hee Il Cho in, although the films are actually a bit crap. In 'best of the best' Grandmaster Cho plays the the coach of the Korean team, he's also in 'Fight to win' but I haven't seen it so I don't know what he does in it.

Search & Destroy (1980?)

-starred ITF TKD GM Park Jong Soo (one of General Choi Hong Hi's right-hand men), Hollywood actors George Kennedy, Perry King (Riptide, Melrose Place), Don Stroud (Amityville Horror, Babylon5, 007 flick - License To Kill), Tisa Farrow (Mia's younger sister);

-Vietnamese ally soldier (Park Jong Soo) gets fatal revenge on his former US Army buddies who'd left him to die during the war, picking them off one-by-one;

-includes a scene where Don Stroud practices one of the ITF TKD hyungs (patterns);

-filmed around the Niagara Falls area, look for the climactic fight scene towards the end with Jong Park & Perry King;

-hard-to-find; not a great movie, but a collectible for any TKD stylist.

For TKD movies you've got to see the Best of The Best series. The first two are the best by far, although number 4 has some great mix of Taekwondo and Hapkido in it.

Pretty much anything with Hwang Jang Lee is worth seeing. If you can track down his The Art of High Impact Kicking I'm sure you'll find it a very useful guide and shows just what the man can do. I think my personal favourite movie of his is Ninja In The Dragons Den, despite him having a small role the rest of the movie's action is fantastic.

Ong Bak is excellent, but if you've seen that make sure you check out Born To Fight. It's got a similar feel and has some nice TKD kicking action.

Also you might like to check out the Korean comedy Spin Kick about a Korean TKD high school squad. And also don't forget Arahan! Happy watching :)
