Ok, after reading numerous threads on here, I decided to pose this question:
The only "true" JKD is Jun Fan and anyone who has learned from them....but you also have other people teaching JKD who do not have teaching in Jun Fan. So, which one is better??
I know my jkd, isn't your jkd...but is it better to try to find and study under someone w/ the Jun Fan background?
I'm a newbie here, so please dont blast me for this one...just trying to get an understanding from all the different idea's flying across this board (such as people talking about different politics of jkd, etc..) Thanks!
I had the question down to YODA he'll explain it .. I'm done explaining these kinds of things really ..

Yes - it IS better to study under someone who has a qualified background in Jun Fan Gung Fu - if JFGF is what you wish to learn - if it isn't, then it errr.... isn't!
Read the last paragraph of Tao of JKD - that kinda sums it up.

Hi,
I think it is best to train where there are cool people and lots of love regardless of political affiliation. Go hang in a boxing gym and get to know the people there. Cool people tend to end up training together.
Other than that, just do whatever YODA tells you to do.

jun fan is in fact taken from lee jun fan bruce lee"s name in his native tounge during his early years he developed this system wich had a strong foundation in wing chun gung fu because bruce had a strong foundation in wing chun as he developed jun fan he played and expiermented with different arts breaking from "the classical mess"this philosophy concept and beleife mixed with the arts of jun fan gung fu later became known as jeet kune do wich stressed the individual( hey ya cant have two lee jun fans so ya can only have one jun fan gung fu)jeet kune do alowed for the development of the individual self "absorb what is usefull reject what is useless and add what is specificly your own"

I'll post this quote from Guro Dan Inasanto that sums everything up pretty well:
"I study Aikido, I study jiu-jitsu, I study Karate, I study Tae Kwon Do. I'll put it together and call it Jeet Kune Do. Is it Jeet Kune Do? It's Jeet Kune Do for them. BUT IT IS NOT THE JEET KUNE DO OF BRUCE LEE. The Jeet Kune Do of Bruce Lee has the Jun Fan Gung Fu material in the beginning and then from there they are supposed to grow and expand, that is Jeet Kune Do. And it is different for every individual. So I would say, if you did that; put Karate and Aikido and Tae Kwon Do and maybe wrestling, that could be your Jeet Kune Do, that's correct. But it is not the JKD as devised or created by Bruce Lee. Because when you see he had the Jun Fan which he thought were the basics, important, and then expand and find your own Jeet Kune Do."
- Guro Dan Inosanto
Translation: if you want your expression of JKD to be closer to Bruce Lee's then, yes, you should probably be studying at a Jun Fan School. If your choice is to find your own "Jeet Kune Do", then go out an learn the fundimentals of an art that works for you. Then add on to it. And you've got your own JKD. Just don't claim that you are teaching Bruce's JKD.
Anyone you learn JKD from should understand and be able to express this.

Here it is for those of you who do not have the book...
If people say Jeet Kune Do is different from "this" or from "that", then let the name of Jeet Kune Do be wiped out, for that is what it is, just a name. Please don't fuss over it. - Extract taken from last paragraph of Tao of JKD by B.Lee :)
