Hi All

I'm looking for some help!

I'm getting a new sword made and want to get something engraved onto the blade not far from the handle. English one side and Korean on the other. I had originaly wanted to get my name, 'Graeme Temple'. But 'Graeme' doesnt seem to translate, so had thought about just using my surname,'Temple'. But I keep getting different translations, depending on website and so on. Also, when I translate the Korean charactors back, it never gives me what I put in first time?!?!!!!?

I'm also thinking of a Korean proverb, or something like 'I need more practice'.

So, I'm really looking for someone who can speak/read/write a bit to help me out!

Thanks in advance! :)

if you're at the tourney in lowestoft this weekend, why not ask kjn alex (i say him as he seems to have the best understanding of english) to translate for you? at least you'd know it was accurate. :)

I would recommend that you just get your name "Hanguelized", i.e. put into Korean without worrying about "translating" it. If that's what you'd like, I would write your family name "Temple" as "템플". I am not sure how to pronounce your first name but if you spell it out phonetically, I'll put it in Korean.

The Korean word for "temple" (as in a religious structure) is usually the suffix -사 (Sa)... however, keep in mind that the Korean word (Sa - 사) has several meanings, including "4", "Temple", and "Death", depending on the Hanja you use. Again, instead of translating your name, I'd recommend writing it phonetically in Korean, as above.

As an example, my name is Thomas, in Korea it's written very simply as To-Ma-Seh (토마스)... much easier to use (for Koreans and myself) than if I translated each character into a corresponding Korean word. For example, "Thomas" may mean "twin"... but I don't want to be called "쌍둥이" - Ssang Dung Ee by my Korean friends... To-Ma-Seh is better. :)

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for taking the time! I really appreciate it! I think I'm going to get 'You-Won-Hwa' engraved.
See here for an explanation: http://www.kuksool.co.uk/ywh.html
How would you 'translate/interpret' this?
Again, thanks in advance!

The Hangeul is listed first and the Hanja is listed second, if interested. (btw Hapkido follows the same priniciples)

류 / 流 (Ryu)
원 / 圓 (Won)
화 / 和 (Hwa)
