Was it a Sprain(Damaged joint/ligament) or a Strain (muscle damage)?
Some injuries will take up to 2 years to heal, but it sounds like it wasnt that severe.

Get to a physio and get his opinion. If it's still bothering you it could be something serious... by putting off getting a professional opinion you're risking making it a recurring injury.

Take a rest. Go see a Physio. Follow R.I.C.E. Do some easy stretches. Go for a light walk and get some of that anti-flamme cream (Natures Kiss) If you can get it in the area you live in.

Thats my advice to you. :)

I injured my hamstring, or IT tendon as a friend of mine called it recently about....four/five months ago and it hasn't fully healed. I had seen a orthopedist and he said it was a sprain and pointed out the fluid there.

He said to stay off it.

I kept up with my Wushu and traditional training and felt extremely sharp pain every time I did a a crescent kick of any kind, a stretch kick, or something that stretched the area right between the butt and the leg. Now, I overcompensated and damaged my other leg when I was at a demo and had to use my left leg for almost all kicks except those needed by the right and that took a couple of weeks to heal from that. Now, my hip joint in the used-to-be sprained sometimes hurts and when I workout.

Please, don't make the same mistake I did. I sprained my hamstring at a track meet and then did long jump, high jump, and then went to my class, limping all the way and having my teacher tell me I was just supposed to stretch and to take it easy for a while. I tried to but still tried to keep up with everyone if the pain was not unbearable. It can still hurt excessively, especially at my wushu class.

Make sure to do streches, but not ones that will make it tighten or hurt worse while still planning a workout ahead, that will only worsen the injury. A good stretch to do is the runners one, where you make you legs and V and the do the usual left-right stretch, or at least, that's what my doctor told me.^^. Personally.....see a doctor! Or a friend! And take it easy, don't hurt your hammy. That's just asking for trouble.O_~

i actually did the same thing as you pretty much. i thought i could step straight into a front splits and heard 6 loud pops in my hamstring, never got it looked at. couldnt walk right for a long time, hurt for about 9 months. i over used my other leg and ended up dislocating that ankle. the hamstring was january last year, that only hurts on cold days. my ankles pretty much ruined right now i have to wrap it any time i do something athletic

Oh ya, Lily? But yeah chopper, I know where your coming from. My left leg has been popping near the knee when I try to lengthen or go into a split. That why When I have to do anything into a split we modify it into a stance.
