don't u first warm up and then do the stretching?

both warming-up and stretching can be done in many different ways. i like to change the exercises to avoid monotony. so are u interested in warming up or stretching, or both?

we strech and warm up at the beginning of class and im looking for both. i dont want to repeat the streches and warmups to the student. my sister is telling me she is getting a little tired of it.

No pain, no gain. Usually if a stretch is fun, it isn't going to do much for the student. But this might be fun, im not sure. Line them up at one end of the dojo. Then make them run to the far side saying its a race. When they get to the other side, make them hold the splits for about 20 seconds, then make them run back to the other side. Do this about 5 times.

Its alright and thanks. i just want new streches and warm up that the students never experience before. Does anybody have more?

- u can line them up on one side of the dojo, they have to do push-ups, on ur mark they run to the other side, there they start doing let's say sit-ups, on ur mark they run to the other side...they can repeat this several times. u can change the exercise they have to do...
- pair them up. one student has to carry the other one on his/her back to the other side of the dojo where they change roles...one student takes the legs of the other student who has to ''walk'' on his/her hands to the other side....
- ur students run round the dojo (several laps), while running they have to do different exercises. on ur mark they have to:
- turn around (360) quickly and continue running (repeat it several times)
- jump bringing their knees up as high as possible
- jump turning around (360) with their knees up
- squat down and continue running
- jump high with their hands up (like in basketball)
- squat down and jump high with their hands up
- do a push-up and continue running
- do 2 push-ups and continue running........

u see, there are soooo many different things u can do. after the warm-up, stretch, buy a book with stretching exercises, or simply find them online and keep changing them. make sure u explain the exercise to them and not only show it. the exercises have to be done properly. after the training session, cool-down with some exercises again...

hope this helps

At my school sometimes our instructor has us run laps and when he says STOP we all hit the ground and do 50 push-ups, or whatever he's told us to do previous to starting. He runs with us, but gives us a head start, he doesnt sprint, but if he catches up with anyone (someone bringing up the rear) that person has to do something extra...pushups, a hundred double-punches, something like that. It might not sound so fun, but I like it when we do that better that just our everyday warm ups and stretches.

Remember having some fun is good while training, but make sure you dont do anything fun thats useless. Any fun drills should be aim toward training.

I tried them, and used new one based on the same idea, that's great fun, and quite hard too.
Thanks :)

woow i am sooo glad :) :) :)
yes, u can use the same idea but change the exercises that have to be done. exercises have to be changed, not only for fun or to avoid monotony, but it's important for the body too, because it gets used to doing the same exercises very fast.

after a good warm up, u can also add some exercises for abs, back...or let's say on one count u have to squat down, stand up again doing ap chagi with ur left leg, squat down, stand up doing the ap chagi with ur right leg...or all students squat down, on one count they stand up doing dolyo and squat down again....u can do different variations of it and change the kicks of course.

keep up the good work :)

i am planning to sum up the exercises that i use in my dojang in one article. so, u''ll probably have the chance to find it in the articles section.

the sum up article seems to be a good idea. Every one would be able to had its own exercises that would be great !!

yeah students liked the exercises you gave, I just had this :
+ walking on ap koubi with someone on the back, then doing blocks and punch in apkoubi without so
+ doing push ups while so hold your feet

great fun too

*super bumps*

Eh, my topic got locked, and this was the only other one to discuss in which seemed suitable, I'm gonna give my ideas on what we do after our basic warm ups:

Dogeball and Bulldog = Great exercises as well as fun games which include plenty of running!

depending on how bright the kids are, we do an exersise called "north south east west" and we name each wall with the coordinates. so each corner will also then become north east south west etc etc...
the class gets in the middle of the gym (we have a circle) the instructor calls out a coordinate, : you have to run to that coordinate, and run back in the circle, then somewhere along the way you have to do 5 press ups, or squats or sit ups (we normally have 5 rounds of each)
the last one back in has to do another 5 on the spot. no exercises allowed in the centre circle.
then after that, you simply call out the coordinates and no exercises, so the last one back is out. then the last one in the circle wins!!
it is really tiring, so best after you've jogged for a bit.

we also do absolutely loads of other games, but mostly the same as neryo for the adults

One of the best warmups and general joint maintenance programs I have seen is Scott Sonnons, Six Degrees of Freedom... highly recomend it.. it is not MA specific, and very versatile.. also works on balance and flexibility..

hahahahaha that's nothing. it gets lot worse than that for adults. for kids i change the games a little bit to suite their age better.

could you please be more specific, provide details?

:D my favourite is arms straight level with the shoulders and holding that position,
and then small circles back n forth keeps kids amused for ages.
also hands at the side and turn palms outwards and lift level with shoulders.

much fun kids and adults alike
