I've noticed that cross-buttocks throws seemed to have been quite popular in traditional forms of wrestling and boxing. As a fan of hip throws, this delights me and reinforces me liking for them. Can anyone tell me how popular these types of throws are in contemporary folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling? I haven't seen them a lot, but I don't watch these sports much either. Do modern wrestlings still usually shoot their hip all the way across, or do they keep their hips in line with their opponents like judoka?

Acording to the book i use for reasearching greco, the hip punch(hip throw)they show has one wrestler out of the two hip throwing pictures going all the way across and one doing it in the more judo like fashion, so guess its a personal preference.

However most Ringen(grappling) sections in many fechtbuch manuals show an abundance of hip throws,so if your interested id have a look at some WMA manuals i'd recomend the goliath fechtbuch as a good start. oh and http://www.thearma.org/essays/WurmTandC.html hans wurm has hip throws which you can look at for your reasearch.

your in Michigan right, isnt wrestling verry popular there? i suppose you could always go watch a few matches, but from what ive seen by way of videos of matches they seem verry rare probably due to the ease of countering the technique or the temporary vulnerability you have when performing it compared to other takedowns/throws.

The book im usuing for reference is 'greco roman wrestling' by William A. Martell, hope that helps.
