practise makes perfect! that is literally the big secret to training in the martial arts i believe.
unfortunately there is no big mystery about it, train, train, train!
how are you enjoying mok gar?
and if you do not mind me asking, where abouts in the U.K are you from?
oh, and working out at the gym i find helps me both with physically keeping up with training sessions and motivation- worth a thought anyway.
welcome to the wonderful world of Kung Fu :)

Hey i'm the same age as you btw.
I practice lau gar, hung gar and ju jitsu.
I've read alot on about mok gar always wanted to see a class but unfortunately i'm up in scotland. Isn't mok gar one of the five main sou5thern family styles (Hung, Lau,Mok,choi and Lee i think that's what katrina does lee or li dunno about spelling.)
I'm sure an instructor in ur style is the one who always gets his photos done for the cimac catelouge. I thought he had some share in it as well.Dunno.
Anyway welcome to the forums.

yep, Li Gar is what i study, and yes indeed it comes from the Five Familes, all originating from the Southern Shaolin Temple, possibly Song Shan and the Fukien Temple. though i may stand corrected on the matter.
Mok Gar was founded by Mok Ching Giu in the late 1700's if i am not mistaken.
Mok Gar is becoming a rare style i think, what a great opportunity to study it.
let me know how training comes along for you.
:D
any info you could post about mok gar would be great,

ty sub zero, cool same age eh :D, where in scotland are you?. wow! does it get confusing studying all three of those styles?? lol id end up using moves from all three in sparring creating some weird style :S.
yeah my instructor is the highest ranking person at Mok Gar in the UK (Paul.J.Boyer) i think his name is, which is v cool, i started learning at the sports centre where i do, and i bought a book with a few pages on Mok Gar in it, and my instructor was in it lol, showing all the stances and a few basic self defence moves. yeah it wasnt formed long ago if my memory serves me correctly,
wow becoming a rare style eh, glad im getting the opportunity to learn it then :D. god bless the monks and various people who developed it over the years :)
so how are Li Gar and Lau Gar like to practise and learn?
ill try and find out what info i can about Mok Gar and post stuff in the future :)

sorry. I forgot about this thread i just missed it when it moved down the board a bit.
Well as stated in ohter forums lau gar is different up here in scotland than it is down south. I don't mean neccisarly in terms of competence or technique. More in the bascis usch as stance etc and attitiude.
Lau gar is well known for it's semi contact element (I've read that lau gar folkes pioneredthis style of sparring)i think it's good fun but should be seen as seperate form Lau gar itself. But itcant each you some usefulthings.
As for hung gar i'm only a beginer.Very beginer. but form what i've read and seen it's a style with alot of emphesis on low stances (which i think Mok and Li have as well) and power.
Very cool wepons stuff.

Go there then to forums. It's sometimes really good ad sometimes really bad. It seems to be split into the really modern sort of popele whowant no tradition at all and the poeple who are obsessed with lineages etc.
No room forpoeple in the middle like me.MAP is well better neway
