Hi,
I've been reading about JKD and I got a bit confused. I just want to know: Do I have to train in a few different arts(grappling, striking and groundfighing) in order to learn or at least apply JKD concepts or can I go to a JKD school without any MA experience?
Thanx

Yes - you can go to a JKD school with no experience. Some may even say that's the best way :p

All that matters is that you get where you wanna go, not which route you take. You can learn plenty of anything you need after starting at a JKD school, and personally, thats where I think youre best off starting anyways.

Is reading his books enough to be efective in JKD?

If by effective you mean being able to pull out Bruce Lee quotes to "Wow" your friends, then yes, absolutely.
If you want to be able to fight, you have to spend time fighting, not just reading.
Anyway, don't train one thing if your goal is another.
It just makes you unlearn all the "bad" habits you learnt doing the other.

Reading his book is effective enough, when used effectively. In other words, yes as long as you use that knowledge to reach your goal. Remember his book is just suggests at best, mix your ideas in to improve yourself.

Don't forget the actual physical training with a quality instructor - it can help you know.

(definition courtesy of A-Level Biology). Thats one weird History teacher you got there- though he was telling the truth i suppose ;)

Does this physical training have to be of any style or just from a JKD school? What if he is studying and notice something he does not like? attitude of the instructor? Not all the concepts have to apply to just fighting and training. Sorry, if I didn't exactly make my point clear.

The training can be of any style... what make JKD is the way you (the trainer)perceive the training and use it...
But by the sounds of it, ya sound like you just want to say "i do jeet kune do" :)
When i started martial arts i bought this amazing book called " Bruce lee - The artist of life" which is filled with bruces own writings about martial arts, styles, forms etc. It explains bruce's whole idea and concept called JKD; Where the whole concept derived from (mainly rene descartes philosophy of the ultimate knowledge).
So i'd recommend reading it :)

I'm not one to say "I do Jeet Kune Do" you may, not me. I know where alot of where his concepts come from. My reason for studying Jeet Kune Do is to help my training. And also there happens to be an amazing series of books entitled with Bruce Lee's 'names'.

Sorry, I'm not wrongly accusing your intentions for studying the art. I just know of some people who would like to study the art so they can tell there friends they know jeet kune do.
But no, i dont go to JKD classes, i believe in the concept of Jeet kune do, but i do not attend any classes because there are non around here :)
"Jeet Kune Do", and "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" are different as far as im aware... Jun Fan (Bruce Lee's chinese name) JKD is B.Lee's own style of fighting. As far as im aware that is.
But I appologise, i didn't mean to wrongly accuse your interest in JKD.
