I was on the fence about that fight. I gained new respect for Tim after his fight with Monsoon, in which everyone thought he was going to get destroyed, but I know Randy isn't a push over but he was the underdog and I don't think anyone thought that fight would be that one sided. Randy's boxing was some of the best I've seen in the octagon.

Randy's boxing was some of the best I've seen in the octagon.I thought Randy was going to get KTFO in the first. I really did. I don't like Tim Sylvia. I think he's a terrible champ, but it just didn't enter into my realm of possibility that Randy would get out of the first round, much less win the fight in such a dominant way. That first low kick, punch combo set the tone and I think it got into his head even after the cobwebs cleared. He just had that look like, "Randy just knocked me on my.... holy crap. Randy just knocked me on my...."
I wasn't prepared for how much better his standup would be. When he was fighting Chuck, he was doing exactly what Monson did in the Sylvia fight: shooting from 4 feet out and looking desperate to avoid trading punches. In this fight he had great movement, stood in the pocket, let his hands go and just kept connecting. Sylvia on the other hand couldn't do a thing. Randy's head was always moving, he was cutting off angles, changing levels and just seemed to be one step ahead of Tim the entire night.
This is now one of my favorite fights EVER. Now I can begin saying, "Man, I LOVE it it Couture could beat Cro Cop... but it ain't gonna happen. Cro Cop is going to annihilate him." :)

That was a good bout.
I felt that Randy had a good chance, he certainly dominated. He was very impressive.

What the heck happened to Babalu? I can't believe he lost again. That was amazing. He dropped his hands on his kick and Lambert just clocked him.
And I was impressed that Lytle took Hughes to a decision. Nicely done. Franklin looked like he was on a mission, but at times looked like he was a little reluctant to mix it up... a little hesitant. Maybe it's just that I was expecting it and so I'm reading too much into it.
I would have liked to have seen the deaf guy fight... can't remember his name pre-coffee, but I'm interested to know if he's developed a more rounded game yet. He was all lay-n-pray on TUF, even though he has heavy hands.

Matt did well and pretty much dominated his opponant (a former OSU wrestler) the whole fight. He's looking more well rounded than on the TV show. Of course he was facing another wrestler. It was a good fight. The only fight that was boring was Gleison Tibau and Jason Dent.
Randy was amazing the whole fight. Sylvia's face looked like meat when he walked out of there.
The Nationwide Arena was a pretty good venue for a UFC event. Downtown Columbus was pretty impressive as well.

I will never ever doubt Randy Couture ever ever again. He may get his butt whupped by Cro-Cop, but I will not being rooting against him even then. Seriously, I have mixed feelings about this win. On the one hand, this is just awesome for Randy and I'm glad he won. This may light a fire under Tim's butt, and teach him that he can't just cruise to victory on a jab. On the other hand Randy will have to face Cro-Cop and possibly Werdum, who will be a much much tougher fight. But I dont want to think about that. I want to think of the awesomeness that is Randy Couture.

I love Randy...but I have serious doubts as to him beating Werdum or Mirko..
I think his first title defense will be his last:(

I reckon Couture matches up quite well with Werdum; I wouldn't be shocked to see him get a decision out of that one, but I don't see him taking Crocop

i was really impressed with couture's bobbing & weaving. he beat sylvia in the stand-up. of course bobbing & weaving won't do much against a kick to the head  . right leg, hospital. left leg..cemetery...
