Hi all
I'm wanting to take up a martial art as part of a continuing training programme and wondered if anyone here could recommend anyone.
I've done a little Wado Ryu and Ju Jitsu in the past (long time ago) and wanted something self defense / real life orientated with emphasis on exercise and sparring rather than Kata's and repetition. I had settled on Akido as it seems to fit my requirements best. Any recommendations (instructors or alternatives) ?
I'm based in the West Yorkshire area of the UK. I'm open to suggestions for other M.A's as well if anyone knows of one that might suit what I want better.
Thanks
Cluderi.

DOH! DOH! DOH! - and DOH some more :D
I was gonna say that :D
Neils's a great guy and will definately be able to help you get fit & learn to fight - no doubt about that!
May be worth looking at his gaffer, Dave Turton, too. He's not a bad old beam either :p

Dave Turton is the man when it comes to self defence....it really does not come any better than him.

Sounds like a great idea, thanks for the help.
I'll check this place out when I get a spare 5 minutes.

Hi Cluderi
You're welcome to give our dojo a try. We're based in Headingley in Leeds and practice a self-defence oriented style of Karate. Compared to the Wado Ryu you've practised you'll find our kicks low, stances high and the emphasis is on realistic rather than ritualistic training. As such there is a significant emphasis on grappling, joint-locking & takedowns, as well as the more usual kicking and punching. Check us out at www.shinseido.org . Or feel free to come and watch / take part in a session on a Tuesday evening.
Or on the other hand, if you really have your heart set on Aikido you wouldn't go far wrong by checking out the White Rose Aikido group. They have a number of clubs around West Yorkshire. What little I've seen of them impressed me.
The best thing to do is to check out all the suggestions you get and see which one feels right to you.
Mike
