View Full Version : Beer!

I should actually shoot myself for posting this but I sense some kindred spirits on forum.
When the mood takes me I like the odd exotic beer, so a couple of questions before you all start telling us your favourite(s)
1/ Whatever happened to Schlitz? Can you still buy it anywhere?
2/ Anyone ever try EKU 28?
3/ Reccomend me some good light beers?
Particularly interested in Schlitz though, as it was all the rage here in the 80's before Red Stripe, and Budweiser took over, not to mention 'Sol'

Just go for Tiger or Tsing Tao beer, the only good ones.
Ya don't wanna be drinking any light beers, and particularly not any American ones.
Some American beer's are nice, Miller Genuine Draft is one. I don't like Budwesier much mind you. Tiger and Tsing Tao aren't too great, but they're OK. Cafferys is the nicest in my opinion, or Kronenberg.
I've tried some exotic/weird beers. My dad is a real ale buff and always brings home some bizzare beers. The worst I ever tried was Banana Bread Beer, and Brains Chocolate Easter Ale.. Yuk Yuk Yuk!

I just can't drink American beer, water's more refreshing and has about the same taste I find.
Chinese beer goes perfectly with Chinese food.
Kronenberg is one of the best, but chilled Guiness is just plain heavenly.

I'm a wimpy drinker. I drink Coors Light. One reason, less calories. But I do like Japanese beer Asihi (sp?), Saki, and the Korean beer OB. Bud is terrible ..... yuk. I've been on a Saki binge lately, though. I wish I can tell ya what kind, but it's in Japanese, so I donno the name of it.
Apparently in Japan beer isn't classed as an Alcoholic drink at all because of its relatively low alcohol content. I guess it is pretty low in comparison to Sake. What else do the Japanese drink apart from that?
Has anyone here ever tried Brains Beer by the way?

There's oxygen, for a while at least drinking oxygen was popular.

First things first; there's no point in drinking beer unless it's proper beer. Something like 80. Not this fizzy lager crap that leaves you burping all night.
The weirdest beer I ever drank was Echt Schenkerla Rauchbier - German smoked beer! Yum Yum.
P.S. K-girl, even with your comment, I'd still have to try chocolate beer. Oh yeah, I like raspberry beer too.
Beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer!!

It's great after a work out/game of rygby as well. Always used to get one after a game when I was playing in the Dutch Leagues, very refreshing!

Topical question here - what are people's thoughts on training with a hangover? One aikido observation has been that the beer sweat produces a craving for alcohol in your training partner.
KarateKid1975
21-Jul-2002, 09:52 PM
Been there, done that Fluffy  I trained on a few occassions with hangovers. One of the hangovers were caused by enjoying a few with fellow MA'ers :D But, it's not fun. Once I trained with a hangover (you know the ones that you still feel drunk after not getting enough sleep to rid yourself of the affects of the night before) and it felt like the dojang was spinning around me. I almost puked ..... eeekkkkkk. Plus on other occassions, I was so dehydrated from drinking the night before that it's hard to get hydrated during class. Then I feel drunk again. ggggrrrrrr And training with a headache sucks. I haven't done it since then. Specailly since I have morning classes now.

Training with a hangover: Saturday tradition since my friends got back from Uni. Great fun, great hangover cure too.
Grading with a hangover: Lets not go there. Its not nice. Celebrate after the grading, not before.

Oh my God! I discovered the secrets to my own chi or "marraige of gravity" while completly blinkin' annihilated. I was 24 it was a beach part on Long Island NY very dark as I was standing in the waves. The next day we had a seminar I got up in the morning drank two beers gargled heavily and went in! Bonzai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ooopps, did I just say this! No I didn't it was just a couple of my teenage students playin' around again. Yeah Right!
Anyway Beer will make you fat~!

My "horror" story of drinking is the first time I ever drank in my life. I was drinking beer, wine coolers, Brandy ..... you name it I prolly drank it that night. Anyways, I was so drunk, I was found wondering in the field next to my friends house (the one that threw the party). My boyfriend at the time tried to get me back to the house, but I kicked him, and kept pushing him down. Mind you, this was before I took any MA. He finally tackled me, and forced me back to the house. Then he said I started throwing stuff at him (bottles ..... anything in arms reach ..... good thing I was still outside). I kicked him again in the shin. He finally got tired of me beating on him, so he left. I finally puked my brains out, and sobered up. I didn't remember any of it. He told me all this.

I had a drinking competition (southern comfort) with a new boyfriend age 16. I can remember us both hitting ourselves in the mouth because we were amused it didn't hurt, giggling because I couldn't sit upright on a sofa, meeting his older sister for the first time and saying 'what the f**k are you doing here?' but to cap it all I have no recollection of meeting his older brother for the first time then trying to break into the upstairs bathroom where he was having a bath (having walked past the downstairs one) so I could pee and having to be dragged away from the door leaving heel marks in the carpet. After spending a long time talking to Huey on the big white telephone I went back to my parents and spent 5 minutes trying to fit my key into the lock only to find that the door was open. Naturally I then claimed to my parents that I was fine, just tired, and was going straight to bed. Convincing? Not.
It really only gets worse over the subsequent years...

My great moment of shame, if I had any shame that is, would have to be my friend`s 17th Birthday. I had a drinking competition with two mates a shot of tequila then a shot of vodka, but they`d given me a glass twice the size of theirs. All I can remember for certain is vomiting on one of my friends, then waking up in someone else`s clothes the follow morning and having to hunt mine out. I know I did more than that because some little sod had a camera.

If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original
$1,000.00.
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

I feel that I must defend lager here....no....you're right - it is crap...

Yay for me!!! We must campaign to get others to join in the fight against the evil Birdseye Empire! I have spoken to FluffyDoc and she feels unhappy about having to kill children, which most of his followers are. I said that we'd take care of the little sh*ts and she can handle any grown ups.
I also broached the subject with one of my clients in the office today...she thinks I'm unhinged! :D

I can't remember the last time that you shotgunned a can of Special Brew...yes I can....it was just before training last Sunday!
It helps with the pain!
I remember one time when I was about 15/16 I had to do a display in public at a big Summer fair thing in Perth, so I did about 10 mins of knife defences, little did i know that one of the heads of our org was in the crowd.
Later on back at a mates house (virtually all my mates are MAists) we had a post display BBQ and the Org head turns up, gives us big complements on the display and says
'Wheres the guy who did the knife stuff, that was really quite good'
So everyone points to the backgarden where I'm lying face down in my own vomitt, the org guy turns to leave saying
'And I thought had had some real potential, I was going to ask him to join the national display team...'
