What useful techniques from other arts would you most recommend to complement muay Thai? Trapping, grappling, throwing energy balls, you name it.

Definately throwing energy balls... :D
Depends on you and your goal, not much of an answer, but the truth.

depending as andrew said on what your goal was. MT covers all the best striking and clinching.
I'd say the double leg takedown...but that shows where my priorities lie :)!!!!

Good point. I'm a small guy, so I'm never going to be strong enough for groundwork without spending a ridiculous amount of time on it. But I have strong punches and knees, and I'm also good at staying in and out of that middle range.
The crux of the biscuit is that I want more options at or inside arm's length. Open hand strikes, manipulations, throws, and so forth. Thanks!

The other Thai unarmed classical art Ling Lom, has a alot of Takedowns, Groundfighting and some Groundwork/ Ground Grappling etc.
I've attempted to compliment my Muay Thai in the past with some BJJ/ Vale Tudo style grappling. The slight problem there, is that some of the Muay Thai has to be modified (Slightly), to facilitate a different type of clinch, more a collar and elbow wrestling style clinch with the hips and legs further back, but no big deviation, I know.
I'd say any kind of extra Grappling/ Throwing art, so as to complement the Clinchwork/ throwing that already exists within Muay Thai.
I've also found that Chin Na (Chinese 'orrible twisting, mangling and grappling art) fits very nicely with Muay Thai, as it has similiar movement and sensibility.

your attribrutes are what matters, the mt is fine you don't need to add techs. to it , you have enough. even if you what to add grappling, the techniques arn't as important as the ability to roll.

Secuerdas, I don't think he means ADDING techniques to MT but rather accompanying MT with other styles.
Well you can train in groundwork if you want, weaponry, joint locks etc etc. If you want to expand more on say elbow or knee fighting, try Filipino arts, learn pananjakman, Kali, etc. Now ur getting into JKD land. More tricks for the treat.
As far as if you meant what styles can you ADD into muay thai itself then you should really focus on your attributes first instead of grabbing techniques.
Secuerdas is therefore right on. Inefficiencies in reaction time, speed, stamina, timing, sensitivity for example are what will carry over irregardless of what style you train in. Thai boxers have been pretty successful for years without needing to plug in other elements of the stand up arts...with only their eight limbs...or nine if you count the head.
