The Kirby books are a good overview.

Also Small Circle Ju Jitsu by Wally Jay is a nice addition, it has slight variations away from the Stnadard Ju Jitsu but is still none the less relevant.

"Mastering Jujitsu" by Renzo Gracie & John Danaher has been very helpful to me

The books by Prof. Clarke, while they don't have much to say about strategies and tactics, provide a very good technical library.

I have both Wally Jay & Bob Clarke's books, Wally Jay's book isn't recommended for beginners; Bob Clarkes provide very detailed visual descriptions of many moves.

I've bought several other books, however, the internet provides a wealth of information on ju jitsu: from history of ju jitsu to downloadable movies.

Also, books can't answer ALL your questions about ju jitsu (and other Martial Arts) but I've found that most of the questions I've asked have been answered after posting questions in forums such as this one.
