Welcome BugGuy, :)
Here's hoping some one can help you here! We have a large American contingent, so hopefully some one can come up with the details.

Okay, now first comes my opinion, second comes my info on shotokan in OK.
I took shotokan in OK, and they treat it like a McDojo... they test for belts every month, and it's VERY difficult to fail said test. I was in there in first grade to second or third grade, and when I was there, I saw brown belts who were younger than I was (about four or five), proof that they basically award belts for being able to do the kata, no matter how poor the execution. Also, the instructor was a pretty hefty lady who couldn't even kick as high as she expected her students to... Personally, I'd rather take Tae Kwan Do, and I'm not too big a fan of that (no offense to Tae Kwan Do people, my opinion). If I were you, I'd try and find an actualy kung fu place...
Now the info. The only place I know of to take shotokan karate in OK (I lived in Broken Arrow) is through Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club.
No offense to any practitioners of Shotokan or Tae Kwan Do, above is just my PERSONAL experience or opinion, and does not necessarily reflect other practitioners of said martial arts.
