It's ok as a demo. Would have been more impressive if the guy resisted instead of just taking a grip on his wrist and waiting.

impressive speed and technique, but his uke was a ruined it, his punches were lame and verry telegraphed to take any degree of realism away, and the whole lightly grabbing the arm thing doesnt cut it either.

had he been doing that on a 6'5 guy, muscled, and taking a proper grip id be properly impressed,as it stands i dont think anyone would be scared of his skinny uke.

but still, his speed awesome, tecyhnique, grand and flashy.nice one.

The thing is we all know how most demos are. Ya just gota look past the standard demo stuff and at whats between the lines.

Uke is the japanese term "to recieve". In this instance, Uke is the man on the receiving end of the technique. Though it can also be applied to certain techniques, eg Jodan Uke = Recieving at a high level etc.

A demonstration is usually rehearsed for safety reasons. If the demonstration was completely impromptu, someone could get seriously hurt. So each participant knows in advance what's gonna happen. However if the Demo is well rehearsed, it can look much more realistic and spontaneous than this one was. In this instance, I would say the Uke could have been more convincing in his attacks, but the Master showed great speed and technique.

Hey if I could move half that fast at age 70, I'd be happy ;)

Last time I performed locks on a muscle-bound rival to Arnold Schwarzenegger, he tapped before I thought I even had the lock in place. There's nowhere near as much mobility in the joints as a lean guy... atleast that's what I find.

Granted his uke still made me laugh when he was pounding and crying on the floor... I wonder if that was real or not.

I'm so tired of this whole "resistance" crap. It was a demonstration, not a sparring session. "I'd like to see him do that to a big guy" Give it a rest. He presented great movements with what seemed like no wasted effort. It was very precise.

That old dude was amazing. His technique was crisp and clean and fast. You can tell alot about his movements from that video... very very good.

hmm but did you not think his uke was sloppy and uncommited to the extreme, yes it was a demonstration but comem-on, there should be some degree of aliveness or at least making it have a look of the slightest realism, demonstrations like that dont impress me,but fairplay to the man, hes verry good and he defies his own age, but that uke was piss-poor.

He was putting on a show... simple as that.

Also, I dunno if you've ever been put into a proper wristlock/throw before, but they arent fun, and sometimes you have to really jump crazy like that to avoid injury.

as he should be, hap has a strong emphasis on break falling.
