Hi I am new to this forum.

I have been browsing for a few weeks now and would just like to say how impressed I am with the topics under discussion - very useful.

Just a bit of background on myself - I have been training in Southern Shaolin and Southern Mantis Kung Fu for just over a year now - it is hard but the rewards are excellent - have never been in better shape. I also practice chi gung once a week, which, although it is not as acrobatic, I'm sure it is doing me some good.

I train in quiet a small informal class - about 12 members turn up regularly (although there are many more students ont he books). Lately the instructor has been concerned with the numbers of students attending - in short numbers are falling and students only turn up when they feel like it. This is unfair on the sifu as he must travel a 30 mile round trip to teach us. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to ensure students show up regularly.

One suggestion has been asking students to pay a mointh in advance, which I do myself and think is a good idea. I would also like any suggestions to combat the problem of new students only coming maybe once or twice and then leaving. Kung Fu is hard and I don't think many realise this (they want it to be like the films) - what would you suggest to encourage more people to stay? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Your idea about paying a month in advance is probably the best way to go.

Welcome to MAP anyways.

Hey sm, Welcome.

Low attendance is the hallmark of proper southern mantis, I think. Nobody likes the hard work :D

I know one sifu who has his students do direct debits from their bank accounts and I think that would be a good way of ensuring attendance (and income). I know it would work for improving my attendance...

Rgds,
