I have worked in a chinese restaraunt for almost a year. But gladly I'm quitting. I was wondering what your favorite type of chinese food is. Yes this is a stupid question, but mongolian beef sounds pretty damn good right now. :D

There's a place here in Toonie that serves 'Grandma Bean Curd' which is a dish of soycurd with mince and chilli plus vegies in a mash-a-mix. My ex said it was what she ate at the Bejing WuShu Acad. Tis the BESTORZ.

The place is Yam's Happie Inn... BEST CHINESE IN SYDNEY.

I'm pretty boring on Chinese food, as I generally go either for sweet and sour pork or lemon chicken (though plum chicken is even better  ).

When I went around south east Asia, I think I mainly had rice. A whole lot of rice. :p

Though there was that one time in the Muslim quarter of Xian - not quite sure what the various names for this would be:

Some of us felt a little ill the next day, but that was probably due to us not cooking it properly (there was a hot pot in the middle of the table, so up to us to cook it, not the chef ;)).

Most if not all of the food in that list isn't even chinese but are western versions of 'chinese food'. However, for the record I like Ngau Lam with rice and according to slipthejab we are ALL invited to his restaurant to sample it's delights free of charge.

Nice one slips, ngau lam and some siu mai please, washed down with three snakes wine. :D

*Note: Three snakes wine is deadly and must only be consumed by professionals.

There is vegetarian and vegan Chinese food. You're crazy if you think Chinese food will give you bird flu.

Since the vegetables are prepared in the same kitchen as poultry (probably using the same utensils) I think there would be cross-contamination.

A few years back I went to a Chinese restaurant in Bowral (country town) with two of my friends. We were starving and one girl Eleanor ordered Mongolian chicken. We heard dogs barking in the kitchen, then the dogs stopped barking very suddenly, 10 minutes later her Mongolian 'chicken' arrived. We couldn't stop laughing and she ate it but felt sick afterwards.

Think about what you could be eating when you enjoy the nations staple, Lily:

Well there are Chinese cuisine that specialise in vegetarian meals... some even take it into an art form where they come up with realistic vegetarian meats that tastes just like real meat.

Had to go with the general's chicken. However, this is dependent on it being made right. Too many places make it sweet without being spicy. General's chicken HAS TO BE SPICY!!!

Watto - oh my god, that made me sick. SICK, I tell you!! I think I'm going to puke up the carrot stick I had just now. Doesn't this sort of thing put most meat eaters off buying commercial pies. I'm turning green as I write this. I have an overactive imagination and yucky things stick in my mind whether I like it or not  I'm not going to be able to eat today.

Don't get me wrong. I love Chinese vegetarian dishes (that I make myself) but I can't understand why they have to dress up vegetarian foods to taste like real meat. I'm queasy just thinking about it. I went to a Buddhist retreat once and they served veg food in the shape of a fish. I was like "WTF?!!!" and broke the vow of silence that weekend.

Meh, meat is meat. In a pie its minced enough and there is enough gravy to hide whatever the meat may be. Still, meat is meat. Like we said to a mate from the States when he asked what the Chiko Roll he was eating was made from.. Dont know, dont care, try not to think about it and enjoy the taste.

Well, why not? I think it is pretty cool; I had "vegie-steaks" with rice while I was a kid, it was delicious. I guess it is just a personal taste thing.

Not really. I mean, who cares whats in it? If those articles are anything to go by then thats some damn tasty camel goat and whatever else they decide to put in it. So long as it doesn't make me sick I don't really care, and a meat pie hasn't made me sick yet.

I'm not sure if I can really say I have a "favorite type" of chinese food, 'cause there are so many regional variations on chinese cuisine, but I can say that, when it comes to catonese places, a longstanding favorite lunch order is sliced beef (or fish) congee, a half order of steamed chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce drizzled over it, and a plate of baked clams with black been sauce. When I eat at a hunan style place, I favor braised fish, braised string beans and ma-po tofu. Hope that answers the question.
