We all use the system laid out by the IJF.

6th Kyu Red
5th Kyu Yellow
4th Kyu Orange
3rd Kyu Green
2nd Kyu Blue
1st Kyu Brown

1st - 5th Dan Black
6th - 10th Dan Red and White (although I'm not gonna argue if they wear a B ;) )

We use quite similar system as Freeform.
Only that beginners (6.kyu) wear white belts.

BJA colours are (afaik, though I suppose it's possible they've adopted the proposed new system by now):

White (ungraded)
Yellow (9th Kyu)
Low/High Orange (8th/7th Kyu)
Low/High Green (6th/5th)
Low/High Blue (4th/3rd Kyu)
Low/High Brown (2nd/1st Kyu)
Black (1st-5th Dan)
etc...

British Judo Association. Close in wording, but a few thousand miles off in geographic terms ;)

Should have made it clearer, sorry for the mix-up

Well my club doesn't use belts primarily, non-traditional jiu-jitsu and combat sambo (which isn't really tradition since its a military martial art) but when competing in judo tournaments we use the USJA rankings
(7th kyu) White
6th yellow
5th orange
4th green
3rd brown
2nd brown
1st kyu brown
1st dan black (etc etc)

Here at the San Diego Judo School we use White, Green, Brown, Black, and simply have multiple ranks of brown and black.

I'm taking up Judo soon, so I'm going to jump in with a quick question.

I'm seeing grades start at 9th Kyu, 7th Kyu and 6th Kyu. Whats the standard Kyu grade Judo starts at, or is it dependent on the organisation?

I personally use black or brown leather belts, depending on what color my shoes are.:D

Kgirl, the standard grades start from 6 kyu (white)
Followed up by:
5. kyu (yellow)
4. kyu (orange)
3. kyu (green)
2. kyu (blue)
1. kyu (brown)
1. dan (black)
2-10.dan (higher black belts)

Atleast these are standards for those countries/clubs which train under IJF.

Hmm, over here 6th Kyu's red and the requirement is basically you turn up for 8 weeks and can fall reasonably safely.

I think it differs slightly from country to country, I know the British requirements are different from the Scottish requirements and we're the same country! :D

Like Deepfreeze said, just that some tend to put a purple between the white and yellow, and from 6/7th to 9th there is a red and white striped belt.

taekwondo was yellow, orange, orange green tip, green, blue, blue brown tip, brown, brown red tip, red, red black tip, temporary black, black

Bujinkan was white, green, black.
Balintawok stick fighting- no belt ranking

Jim, but that is optional. Just as some people prefer to use grey belt instead of brown one.
I left it unmentioned since I tried to keep it quite simple :)

Although admittedly I've never heard about the purple belt being used in judo. Where exactly is it in use?
