The far east civilization existed waaaay ahead of the US. Most of their knowlefge was past down from generation to generation. A lot of their teachings have prevented bloodsheds and wars. It's up to you to believe them or not, but be critical in search for the truth.

Well, I think you'll find that actually most knowledge we have today was passed down from generation to generation, or discovered more recently. As for their teachings preventing bloodshed and wars, have you ever checked Eastern history?

the east has always been violent throughout history right?

so does anyone think these masters really exist and that they can reach ages of 300 and look 30? and that they have managed to raise their consciencness or vibration beyond that of the material realm?

No. Because it is patent nonsense. The sooner you realise this, the better.

Brother, it is you who needs further reading. Who wrote the history books which are popularly read? Of course, Westerners! If you are a westerner, would you write about the BAD things that has happened in your past? The "I" is much more favored, that is why the GOOD things that has happened in the EAST have been less written.

Read other books of Eastern History with an eastern author. That should open you to new perspectives.

On one hand I believe that a lot of the exaggerations, though false, were meant to underline the importance of studying the mind, body and spirit and how it can enrich life. On the other hand I agree with Em-em that western history is a phallacy. If you look practically at history, the east pretty much outclassed most of the major medical, philosophical and technological ideas available to western europe. The emperor of China had ships that were 10 times the length of the largest naval ships Portugal and Spain had at the time; the only ships to surpass them in size were the steel oceanliners. . Almost all forms of astronomy and navigation came from the middle east and India. Oh by the way the aryans were completely made up and there's concrete evidence that they tamed horses in India before most of Europe. Europeans were largely traders and imperialists and brought most of their technology from abroad. Like my colonial Latin American History teacher says, " If the white man says it's true, it probably isn't."

I never said that.

What I was trying to convey is that books that are mostly published today is authored by the westerners. I never said it was false.

The thing is, there is no such thing as UNIVERSAL History. History is writing about important things to those who are reading it.

Example:
What does Napoleon mean for the Indonesians? nothing
What does Suharto mean for the Italians? nothing

If you want philosophy from the far east than study up buddhsim or hinduism. by the way for all who are ignorant. Buddhism is an athiest religion! There is no god or higher power in buddhism

GB, that's partly true. Hinduism and Buddhism isn't the only one you should study when you want to learn about the far east. The Far East [here] is very diverse. You can not speak of the fareast as one.

Isn't Budda the higher being? Even though he was human.
I know some who pray to him as a higher being.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yah your wrong. Thats the common mistake people make when looking at buddhism. in fact buddha is just the title given to someone who has reached enlightenment. when they speak of buddha as a single person such as "the buddha" they are talking about the legendary buddha "siddhartha guatama". but thats besides the point. We do not worship a higher power. in fact siddhartha said not worship him.
