i am looking for a school that trains in the way of the old shaolin. the closest thing i have found is the "northern china shaolin martial arts academy" (www.shaolins.com). if anyone knows where i can find a school true to shaolin, please let me know.
thanks!

Couldn't you just join a temple? :D

Not great advice if there isn't a temple in the vicinity. Even then you'd have to make sure it wasn't a cult-ish temple.
You've made a good start by asking here, there do seem to be a few Chinese Stylists, so maybe some of them will see this thread and give better advice than me.
My only advice is to be sure of what you want, or rather why you want it. If you only want to learn Shaolin through reputation, then it's possible you might find something else that suits you just as well. If you've done a lot of research and think Shaolin is the only MA out there for you, then keep looking, and good luck with the search.

Alot of schools have put shaolin in their name to try to "cash in" on the real temple.
Like some of the schools around the temple itself, 95% of them have "shaolin" in the title.
Just be careful.

thanks for your thoughts everyone! very much appreciated!
yes, i beleive shaolin MAs is the only MA for me.
where can you find a temple that is still active. i thought i read somewhere that the chinese government has not allowed shaolin monks to conduct martial arts gong fu training inside of the temples for many years.

The only thing close to a true temple in the U.S. is in New York.
The temple in China does 2 week courses if you have the money.
Some of the Shaolin masters did escape to the U.S. when communism was taking over so it is possible to find some one who has fleed to the U.s.
And then there is the infamous U.S. open in June or July that have people who teach Shaolin at there schools come and demonstrate or teach.
Good luck with your search.

yes, i beleive shaolin MAs is the only MA for me.Not to sound like a jerk but two things:
1. Why do you think they are for you ("because" is not a good answer)?
and
2. Describe what you think a "Shaolin" art is/looks like. Broad strokes and features are enough to start.
Understanding both with help us help you immensely,
