I'd propose that anyone who's been a member less than a month be blocked from creating a new thread with the words "chi" or "ki" in it, or any thread with "best" and "art" within three words of each other.

Has anybody noticed that hardly any of the 'MAP-vets' start threads anymore? Weird.

Ah, and I thought all those extended periods of silence in the chat room were meant to be sultry! ;)

Don't get me started again FF

Kung Fu VD touch of death, real or myth?

Butcher Vs Fencer? (http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1131&highlight=Butcher)

Hmm, that last one though, a thread on everyones reasons why Freeform is crap and they're not perhaps?

How do you get to be a MAP-Vet and do you have to like dogs or have been in a major military conflict of any kind?

Hit 1,000 posts Jim? :D

Hmm what makes a Map Vet?

1/ You need to completely lose the plot on a few threads.

2/ Aplogise to someone you've offended.

3/ Start a good thread or so.

4/ Bash some Trolls.

5/ Keep answering the same questions, no matter how many times they get posted.

6/ Sigh wearily, and hope someday, that new members will discover it's possible to search back through the older threads on each forum. Back to 2001 in fact.

7/ Read/Contribute to the site Magazine.

8/ Share your knowledge.

9/ Learn from others.

10/ Best of all, go hook up with some other members in the flesh.

Why not post a tip to the new members about the possibility of searching back through older threads?

There's this nice red button at the top, and under EVERY post that has SEARCH written on it - how easy do you wanna make it? :D

Let me point out another "button" to new members, while we are at it trying to make life easier for them on the Martial Art Planet.

There is the "f.a.q." button (stands for "Frequently Asked Questions")http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/other/11doh.gif

I concider myself a vet' - but thats 'cos of the age:(

I've been a member of MAP for three hundred & thirty three years now & these young whipper snappers come in & post regergitated stuff that quite frankly (ooo, nearly lost me teeth there) has been posted by "vet's on MAP" many moons before(wobbles on walking stick, steady). I mean to say, in my day we didn't have fancy journals;) &...& ar (swallow)..cade games to boot, NO we had a simple life posting but we survived "It didn't do us any harm". Why when i were a lad we didn't have PC's...no,no we only had 2 & half(BBC2 started about 4pm)channels on't telly - mind you i am going back a bit now.:)

Anyway i'm off to eat some bread & dripping - ahhh...i miss the simple things in life. Damn teeth, i'll have to swill them in some water now. I remember the Beatles you know! Bloody kids

but you've got to admit that without new members, life in the forum would be boring. Everyone would just say 'been there, done that, search the forum' then everybody's not going to talk about anything old anymore.

Or better yet - Make the saerch page the hme page ;)

Or put in something like if you don't search then you are going to have a evry unlucky day :D

I have been on a while so my new thread will be entitled, ah hem,hem (wait for it)...

Can anyone tell me what the best art for developing Bruce Lee's type of chi for a fight between a grappler and a striker after doing kata?

That should start some really good discussion (titter, titter).
