What an idiot! :o

Zoo lion kills man who invokes God (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060605/od_nm/ukraine_lion_dc)

KIEV (Reuters) - A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.

"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.

"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."

The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.

Mark 16:15 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

Shooot . . . that's not Murphy's law! I can think if much worse things that could happen, were I trapped in a lion cage.

Getting the cut and bleeding to death really doesn't sound so bad in that sitation. It could have mauled him for 30 minutes.

Tell me about it! Btw, you do realize the guy was most likely an atheist, right? Read what he said. Unless you can come up with something about him that shows he wasn't an atheist, I would say that it was most likely a suicidal atheist that wanted to make religion look bad.

It's actualy not an uncommon thing for disturbed individuals to do, and the coment by Newlearner (I think learning probably would be something new in some cases ;) )about the guy being probably an atheist is nonsense, nobody has to prove naything to you for one and for two the guy was shouting "god will keep me safe" hardly makes him an atheist.

Actually, I can see where NewLearner is coming from. From the article:

The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists'

Which makes you wonder if he really was a believer or not. Plus, I can't see anything in the article to say what religion he claimed to be. We'd be jumping to conclusions to assume he was a Christian.

Nothing to say he was or was not anything other than disturbed in my opinion. It's actualy a very comon scenario for people acting out of a mental imbalance, usualy amongst Christian brought up people and also Muslims (Daniel is a prophet in both religions).

Yeah, here are the two lions relaxing afterwards while their meal goes down. You can see the one on the left trying to lick an eyeball from between the digits of her paw.

I reckon he should have put some lion skin on top of his shoulders before preaching the Bible to the big cats, like these piglets are doing with Ma tiger:

Reminds me of a joke.

After the tsunami, a church is swaped with water, and its rising. The on surviving priest runs onto the roof to pray for gods deliverence. 2 mins later a fishing boat comes along. "Get in father, I will save you.". Said that captain. "No thank you captain, my lord will save me". Replied the priest. So off the boat went.

Another 2 mins of pray and another boat comes along. Again the priest refuses the captain help, instead waiting for god to save him. By this time, the water is up to his waist.

Another 10 mins past, and a helecopter hovers above the roof of the church. "Come father, I will save you." says the pilot. "No thank you, God will save me." The priest says. So off the helecopter flys.

The water is kreeping up they priest's neck and he is starting to get nervous. "God, why do you forsake your loyal deciple?" he askes god.

Just then, the heavens part and gods head pops out of the clouds.

"OI MATE. I've sent 2 boats and a bloody helecopter already, what bloody more do you want!"

:D

Of course God is Australian. ;)

If this Dummy would of read his Bible he would of seen the verus that says, "Do Not Temp Thy God". Maybe we should change it to, "Don't Mess With God, Or You Will Get Eaten By Lions". I fully believe In God, but God Also gave me the knowledge that I know something bad will happen if I do that. It's just the thining of the heard.

this guy showed ultimate blind faith, just like it advocates in the bible. He died for it, dont try to spin it into a temptation thing. You tempt God into giving you winning lottery numbers, this is a different kettle of fish.

You tempt God into giving you winning lottery numbers, this is a different kettle of fish.I'm no expert on the bible, but I've got a sneaky feeling that it never actually has God saying: "Go and make a prat of thyself in a lion's den. It's cool - I won't let them bite thee."

Can't we all just accept that this bloke was a complete nutter, without trying to turn it into some kind of test case for the existence of God? ;)

My beef is that if the lion didn't attack this guy, or the guy survived, this would be held up as proof that God saved him. But because he was killed all of a sudden it doesn't count.

I agree. God gave us brains. In no way does faith require that we do things known to be idiotic. This man was disturbed.

Similar thing happened in New York City once, minus any comments about God. A guy climbed into the polar bear enclosure in the Central Park Zoo and got killed. Polar bears, like lions, are nothing to mess with.

Oh, by the way, anyone wanting to make comparisons between the guy in the news article and Daniel in the lion's den -- Daniel didn't willingly and deliberately go into the lion's den -- he was forced in there. Duh.

There was a similar crackpot in Taiwan once. I can't recall whether he was killed or just brutally mauled. I think somebody might have snapped a picture of the male lion taking a swipe at him.

Then there was that classic episode of Wildboyz where they are waltzing around Africa in a zebra suit. Love that one :D ......

You forgot to include the whole phrase. "God will keep me safe, if he exists." Have you ever heard a person that trusts God so completely that they are willing to test it with their lives and then say "if he exists"? I didn't think so. I haven't either. Thus, I have to assume that the person, if not insane, doesn't believe in God at all. While the person being insane or the person being sane but suicidal and wanting to make religion look bad are the only two conclusions I can see.

And the little news article gave no indication that the guy was in any way connected to Judaism or Christianty. Hey, maybe he was a Moslem. They regularly go on suicide missions, right? In other newspaper articles they do!

Either way, it's not terribly prudent to invite the wrath of things that can rip out your carotid artery in a heartbeat. Perhaps that might be wisdom for non-believers & believers alike, unless you have a show on MTV & you're utterly insane...

Very true. But do you think that someone that is suicidal would be immune from trying to make someone they disagree with look bad? Kind of like a last laugh at the other person's expense.

Large numbers of notes left behind after suicides blame their killing themselves upon someone else.

If your praying, hoping to be snatced away by a beam of light or protected by a forcefield you better be praying to aliens.

Haven't people heard. "Faith without works is dead." This sentence contains the key to religion. Noah didn't die in the flood because he built the boat, god gave him the instructions but Noah had to do all the work.
Daniel totally would have been eaten if he'd waggled his nekid rear in a lions face saying "neener, neener, neener you can't eat me"

It was about one and half years ago when a crazy Australian Christian tried to "save" some lions in a zoo by climbing into their pen and preaching to them. They left him alone because they'd been fed that day but knowing what preachers are like, I'm surprised they didn't eat him out of pure annoyance! :D

Wow. Just wow. Now was it really God that saved him? Probably Satan saved him from not experiencing any embarrassment after the mauling.

Or God probably did that himself, God saved the lions from getting hungry, and coincidently the guy thought that he was the one getting saved. Uh no we gotta manage of how to save ourselves and others, in cases like that.

Scary to think of how some people preach and get themselves killed all by sacrifice.
