I have a "tactical folder" by Bench Made that i have kept perched in my pocket for several years. I see more and more people with them, even women. A buddy of mine in law enforcment says he comes across them all the time now. I even see high school age kids with them?
How many of you carry a "Pocket knife"
and what brand is it?

Sometimes carry a HCKT Tactical folder. It has a Tanto tip. Last inch and a half(near your fingers) is serrated. Color is black, both the blade and handle. The blade is about 4 1/2 inches long.

Sorry, no picture.

depending on the circumstances, I carry either a 3.5 inch fixed neck knife (virtually my EDC), a 3 inch fixed blade neck knife with a skinner type blade or a 3 inch folder from CKRT. when I have my FMA gear and on my way to training, I have a 4 inch balisong with me.

I wonder how many other people from the US will reply.

I carry my Navy issue TLN Electrician's knife in a belt pouch. Has two blades: 3-inch knife blade & 3-inch screw driver blade.

Yoda,
Given that you are resident in the UK, do you feel comfortable carrying such materials given the strictness of our laws regarding offensive weapons?
One of the reasons why I do not personally carry any weaponry, is that if attacked I'd be tempted to use it, and I have no wish to suffer the idiocy of the UK justice system and its blind eye towards self protection.

Thoughts?
Cheers,
Rich

I agree, but Aus is probably one of the safer countries.

If memory serves, Yodas knives don't break UK law. I love knives but won't carry one. I'd hope my assailant would provide me his ;).

Then again, I'm craving a pen-knife and have already put a tactical folder on my Christmas wishlist. I like the idea of carrying it around my neck; it doesn't get in the way and, hey, I have a knife.

David

Regardless of whether the length of blade is legal, if you ever use one, you'll be up $hit creek. We've seen so many cases in this country of perfectly law abiding people being prosecuted for simple cases of self-defence, even when no weapons were used.

That's my concern, not whether the blade itself is legal - it's the use of it. And why would you carry one if you have no intent to use it?

Please don't misunderstand - I know that Yoda is a well-balanced individual who isn't likely to draw a knife without any provocation, I'm just overly pessimistic about the UK legal system.

Good point. When I say I want a knife on me, that's just for the convenience of having a tool about my person. Years ago I discovered that I wasn't going to cut an attacker.

Yoda's knives are not legal per se to carry in Great Britain as they have locking blades, you cannot carry a knife with a locking blade in this country, unless you can prove in a court of law that you had it for a lawful purpose.

You can carry a folding pocket knife, no locking mechanism, with a blade of less than 3". If you are arrested with one of these the prosecution must prove you were carrying it for an unlawful purpose.

Yes - it's illegal to carry in the UK. Unless you're the scumbag trying to abduct my kids or beat me to death - then you can carry what you like as you are outside the law anyway.

My pocket knife is for opening computer boxes at work, Officer. Most often it is not in my pocket but in my laptop case.

I agree. the laws in this country irritate me beyond belief. The Tony Martin scandal is one such case of outrageous treatment by our not so "leagle" system.

I agree - the Martin case reeks.

Another recently.... A guy found some kids vandalising his fishing pond (for the umpteenth time) so he made them wade in and clear out all the crap they'd thrown in. That night Police arrived at his home and arrested him for kidnapping - he got a custodial sentence. :woo:

I carry a swiss army knife :) It's for opening packages and carving my initials and CUTTING FOREIGN THROATS no, it's just for opening things.

I used to carry a Swiss Army knife (and may, again, when I find it). It was for uncorking wine bottles. Honestly (it has a corkscrew attachment).

Used to carry a Spiderco Native but don't anymore.

I found it changed my mindset when I had it on me. Instead of "OK there's a squad of ned's with a bottle of Buckfast, I'll go this way instead" I'd pat my pocket & walk past them.

My other half pointed out my newfound bravery & made mention to how uncomfortable it made her. Now I try to use avoidence more than anything ( still carry a non locking folder with a blade less than 3" & a steel pen mind you:) )

well I carry three knives on me only one of which is locking one.

I have cheesy walmart tactical folder that I use for opening boxes bags etc and cleaning my nails it has about a 2 inch blade.

A swiss army knife because it maintains a sharper edge and has several tools on it

An old rusty knife for cutting thing I wouldnt want to cut with any of my other knives like hazardous watses or something.

They really arent for self defense as I have very minimal knife training and I live in failry quite town.

Never mind the fact I some times go for walks carrying a sword :D

The pliers could be handy for some dental work on the bad guys.
I may switch!
I dont think of my knife as the main line of defence, just another layer. I would just hate to find myself in that instance where the knife fit the need, but I did not have it.

The laws sound pretty tuff for you guys over there.
I think under 3.5" for the blade is okay in the US. not sure about the rules on locking blades.
Its an old saying but I would rather be judged by 12,(in the court room) than carried by 6! (At the grave):woo:

A friend told me that if the blade of your knife, folding locking or fixed, was longer than your hand is wide at the widest part, dont carry it around town.

I'd be fired if I was found carrying a knife at work.

Why is it not necessary?
Why is it not a good idea?

I often carry a Cold Steel Voyager (4 inch). I carried a Spyderco Endura until the clip broke off in a freak occurrence. I like them both very much.

I use my Voyager to open letters and packages and let air out of my tires when I overinflate them at the gas station, so that if and when I am asked by a judge or policeman what I use it for, I can honestly say that I use it to open letters and packages and let air out of my tires.
