I come a whole family of recon marines and swat team members. The problem is that im about to start the police academy in about six months and i never joined the military unlike my family( of course i get a lot of #%*$ for it)

I was wondering since my brothers are so far advanced in combat because of military and swat training, is there any classes I can take to make up for what I missed by not joining the military (I was to busy partying in college instead of training)?

Im looking for hand-to-hand combat that could help with street fights of all situations. Is joining the military my only option?

I live In Atlanta and I'm 22 years old.

I've never had any prior martial arts experience, but I'm willing to do anything it takes to be a better cop.

many thanks,
brian
p.s.
My brothers are way to proud to teach me, and also I want to prove to them I can learn solid tactics wihout there help.

If you live in Atlanta I'd have to say give CKD a try, you're right near to the headquarters there and it has been called the Art of Streetfighting before (not by us, but by other martial arts). It's very practical and effective, and quite easy to learn.

If you do want to take a look the website is www.choikwangdo.net.

If you do decide to train there let me know what HQ is like, I'm planning to try and get there some time next year, but I'd probably need money for that.

To be honest though most martial arts would help you, I just say Choi as a recommendation because I personally know that it is effective for me.

Hapkido, Aikido, and other arts of that type will cover alot of techniques that are "legal" for a police officer on duty to use, and at the same time are effective.

Brian,

I think the Police force will teach you what you need and if not there should be others in the acadamy that have done things before that can advise you where to go for extra-curricular activities.

Let us know how you go.
