I will be moving to Phoenix November 1st, and will be looking for a good Muay Thai school. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, I want to fight for the first time relatively soon. How active is the amature fight scene?

Crap, I gotta look this guys info up again. Master Bob Karmel runs a school out there, I think. He was the guy who was the manager of the Fairtex gym when it used to be located there, before relocating to San Francisco. If memory serves me correctly, he still runs a Muay Thai gym in the area...

Thanks for the tip! Because of it I was able to find Bob Karmel's school (Back Alley Gym in Chandler), and that led me to http://www.sports-info.us/ which has an amazingly comprehensive list of martial arts schools all over the country. Woohoo, crosstraining here I come!

There was a jym in Chandler Arizona. I dont know if that is very close to pheonix or not, or if the gym is still there. I don't know who still teaches there. Sakasem use to, and Boonkerd T.

I learned muay thai from my football coach. Who not to mention, was an ex-secret service agent, scored a perfect 400 points on the fitness testing, and has been training in muay thai for years up on years. In my opinion, private lessons are the best way to go. =). Let me know what area of phoenix you are in and i may be able to give you his information for private lessons.

Master Bob no longer has the gym in Chandler. He does teach 2 nights a week at an MMA school in Tempe though. As for Muay Thai in Phoenix, it's tough to find depending on your skill level. If you want any more info let me know. I know quite a bit about the MA scene in Phoenix.

Thanks for the tips everyone, but I've found a good school. I'm now training in Muay Thai under Trevor Lally (and soon BJJ under Gustavo Dantas) at Arizona Combat Sports in Tempe (www.azcombatsports.com). Maybe I'll see some of you at events around here, maybe in the opposite corner in the ring. ;-)
