Just a quick question, does anyone have the Adidas Champion TKD suit (not the Elite one)? They seem very very expensive (£50) so I'm just wondering if they're worth the money? I'm thinking of getting one, but the suit I have now cost £3, if the only difference is the Adidas symbol.....then it's not worth the extra 47 squid!!!

Also, anyone know what the Nike one's like???

Another thing that drives me mad, the Adidas karate gi's are £25, why should we pay double?!!!!! Something's not right there!!!!!

Cheers

I've heard people say that the Adidas one makes a louder noise when performing punches and kicks. That makes it great for performing poomsae.

People in my dojang who compete in poomsaes have one regular suit for normal practices and then one adidas suit for competition/national team poomsae training.

I have the adi-champ, I like it, actually my favorite dobak for workout and competition. Not sure of the Nike one though, have never worn it, although I have some friends who do and they love it. Hope that helps

Thanks guys, that does help. Maybe it'll help me kick harder and higher too!!!! I've heard they've got magical powers!!!!! ;o)

I think I'll get the adidas one, I like adidas as a brand, German quality after all. Still, if anyone has any comments on the nike dobok, I'd still like to know as wont order mine for a few days.

Thanks again

They just seem to last longer to me. I had my addidas for 2 years and it still looks brand new.

now that we have started talking about the uniforms, i would like to ask u, who train tkd, how much u paid for ur dobok and of course what kind of dobok it was/is. i am really eager to see if there are any price differences.

£30 and a TAGB standard issue dobok. Easier to choose when there's only a choice of one

I have the adidas grandmaster uniform. Cost about £70 i think. I have 3 suits, but i wear my adidas one 90% of the time. Its a great fit, looks great and also has this E-bionic thing woven in, which basically absorbs the sweat and hinders bacteria growth (they have this in some football shirts i believe).

Its also stiched 9 times on the cuffs and 6 on the collar, so its very well made too.
Overall i think it was worth every penny.

adidas signed the contract with WTF, so we might be seeing some interesting stuff, i guess

I've got the Adidas Grandmaster uniform - 4 of them! They look wicked, and feel good to train in too. I used to wear some unbranded cheap stuff before, but never looked back after switching to Adidas. Never tried the Nike uniform, but a guy in my club wears one... and it looks a bit wierd. Dunno, just my personal opinion!

My master and the other instructor have a few different uniforms but they prefer the "Addidas Grandmaster Uniform" with the three stripes on the shoulder. It's a bit pricey but it looks very good and holds up to brutal training very well. All of the Adidas uniforms I've seen have looked good and held up well to daily beatings.

I personally have a few uniforms from korea I wear... pretty plain (Moo Sool brand) and have enjoyed them I finally broke down and bought a cheap middle weight uniform from AWMA (www.awma.com) with the pullover style and black collar. This uniform has been very good and held up to sparring, grappling, and sweaty days. It's heavier than the Korean ones, but pretty cheap.

i would really like to buy that Grandmaster Adidas uniform, but it is not that easy to find it here. and several days ago I found out that there is a guy who wants to open a shop of adidas equipment and the other adidas dobok, i mean the one without the stripes, champion dobok, costs really cheap. (he doesn't have the Grandmaster uniform at the moment). i feel reluctunt to buy that one. when i saw the price on the adidas website and compare it to the one i am supposed to pay, i started wondering if we are talking about the real thing. probably not. it's not about money any more. i can buy a cheap one, and then what? ... i'll probably have to buy another one in 3 months. so what's the purpose?

You may as well get a quality suit, you can really feel the difference. I mean i had a really nice one from Korea, cant remember the brand, but they were like $100 each, but i got 1 for around $50, but the adidas grandmaster uniform was much much better, and cheaper....

Its like 30% more, but its like 60% better....

I'm a big fan of the adidas uniforms the Nike ones just started showing up stateside within the past 6 months or so, so I havent got to try one out yet, but I can say that all the adidas uniforms I have had held up well and didnt shrink too much.

Adidas uniforms are cut much better...the Nike ones are cut very tight.

I know this might sound odd, but why not go for a judo uniform. they are generally a lot stronger due to the abuse judo practitioners put them through due to constant grappling and throwing.

my cousin trains judo and his uniform is soooo heavy. i couldn't believe it.

and yes, i want to buy a good uniform. the one i am training in now is high quality but i have been using it for several years now. and it has definitely served its purpose. i have used it for both trainings and competitions, and it is really time i bought a new one.

i am a huge fan of adidas sportswear, so i would like to buy an adidas uniform as well.

Adidas makes both a Karate and Judo uniform, however if you are training in Taekwondo those uniforms would be much too heavy....
The Adidas 8oz Champion uniform is much more affordable, made of good quality and should last for quite a while.....

My Instructor gets them wholesale so I paid $60 US for my 14oz brushed canvas ultra heavyweight Pro-Force (I think that's what it's called) That thing makes me feel like i'm wearing lead!!
I personally liked an older brand I don't think you can get anymore called REMO, I have a 16oz canvas dobuk that I've had for 10 years now and looks soooo badass!

i know my master has a grand master uniform i believe it is its by adidas i know that and it has three solid black stripes down the shoulders and i think three solid black stripes down the pant legs but i aint sure.... and also black belt students at my school have adidas uniforms with no black stripes.

I didn't buy the Adidas uniform because I couldn't find it. But I bought a new KWON dobok instead with a black stripe on the shoulders, thighs and neck line. It's very comfortable to train in but the only flaw is that my sleeve is messed up with resin as we have already discussed in one of my threads.

why would they be to heavy????

Edward Hsu

Karate and Judo Uniforms are made much more heavier..mostly for the grappling aspects of those arts...Taekwondo Uniforms are much lighter..especially in Sport TKD where you try not to carry as much extra weight as possible..ex: my Black Belt players have a 'Competition Belt' a belt that wraps around only once...also at competitions they will bring 2 or 3 extra doboks, just in case the one they compete in gets too soaked with sweat.

i can see that for competion but why wouldn't you want a heavy one for training?

I know our master gives the Addidas uni's to the when his students reach BB. They look terrific and seem to wear well.

As you know TKD is different from Judo/Karate...when we do grappling drills I have my students wear a heavier dobok. If you tried doing the same thing with TKD uniforms you would rip them

i've got the addidas grand master... they've got anti-bacteria stuff on it.. don't really know much about it as i'm only getting my black next month... just bought it off a friend on the national tkd team (they get them free) for around USD$60 but its usually around USD$150... addidas is a pretty established tkd brand by itself... :)
