But, over the weekend i was campin, and i got bit to hell from tons of bugs, i swear i must have atleast 50 bites, and i wore 3 diff types of bug spray, and was wondering if there's any decent treatments anyone can recommend? i use the calamine lotion and stuff but it's not doin quite the trick, and also a remedy for sunburn not involving oatmeal or something would be nice also ;). Thanks guys, and please don't spam for having a question so irrelevant to MA, the current pain i'm sufferring is bad enough without people yelling at me. ; :D

A little late now, I know, but eat lots of brown rice before your next camping trip. Make it a part of your diet for a couple weeks before your trip, and take some with you to eat during camping. Just try it.
I don't know of a post-bite remedy 'cause I never much had that problem.
As for the sunburn, try aloe vera. It comes from a cactus-like plant that grows in the Arizona desert. It's great for burns. Ya, sunburns is something I know about. :p

You can actually buy small house plant varieties to keep indoors. When I lived in Washington state we kept them in the kitchen where near the stove in case of minor burns. Just snip a frond off and split it; there's a clear gel inside, we just applied the plant directly and let it fall off on its own. Next best idea, get some aloe vera gel from Walgreen's or where ever and put it in the fridge. It's a bit of a shock for a second but it feels so good on a burn. Aloe should help the bug bites too, it's an amazing little plant.
Also for the bites see if you can get some borneol camphor, dissolve it in alcohol and apply it to the bites. It's a very basic topical pain ointment and camphor has the odd effect of blocking pain while not interfering with normal nerve functions so less numbness. Try to keep this away from the sunburn as a drying agent like alcohol is the last thing you need on it.

Bummer about the bites.
If you were older I'd recommend rum.
The itching is caused by your body making histamine....so you should try a antihistamine like Benadryl.
Oh yeah....don't scatch :D

heh, vodka did the trick during the campin trip
But, too late for not scratchin, i try but it's so intolerable, i just gotta do it
So, applied couple layers of aloe vera for a couple hours, and the stuff absorbs into my skin within like 10 mins, and i feel fantastic in those 10 mins, then after i start to get stinging again in my back. Am i supposed to put more on or what?

Dermoplast Spray (benzocaine 20%, menthol .5%). For immediate relief from surface itching and pain, nothing is more effective than the active ingredients in this product. The spray bottle is a convenient method of application, too.
try it... stuff works

The best solution that I have found for burns is a half and half combination of aloe vera and tea tree oil.

If I get bitten I always use neat essential oil of lavender. Reapply as necessary. Works like a charm for me with bug bites. (also works on minor burns)

Ancient redneck medicine for bug bites (now sold in stores) Ammonia on a cotton ball as needed // sold as STING-EZ. Prior to leaving the house for your next camping trip start taking vitamin B-12 once a day. Take it while camping too. I do not know why but it actually would reduce the number of mosquito bites I got when I was camping. I still use it down to this day!

What my family always did for sunburn was mix ice-cold water with vinegar in a bowl. Wet a washcloth with it, wring it out, and then apply to sunburn. When the washcloth gets warm, rinse in the vinegar-water and repeat. It's supposed to draw the heat out.
Aloe vera is also good.
And I seem to remember Noxzema working for sunburn... but it's been years since I tried, so I don't remember how that worked.

How did we get on Sunburn remedies? Do they help with bug bites? The vinegar thing sounds like it might help...

Cool! Missed that all important word sunburn. I just skimmed to the oatmeal thing as some people I know have used Oatmeal for bites too. Espicially chigger bites.

Aloe vera gel has also been said to heal gastric ulcers.

Calendula cream is always nice from Boiron homeopathics. Arnica gel is always an option for pain and soreness but not on open areas.
