Does BJJ have any striking moves or is it a grappling only art?

There are some taught in some schools I believe but it would be like going to a Muay Thai class to learn to wrestle.

Use BJJ for what it does best & cross train in a strong testable striking art (Thai, Boxing etc)

you are not going to spend a lot of time learning to throw punches, elbows, and kicks in BJJ however the goal of BJJ is to get a dominant position on your attacker such as mount or back where you can strike him and he can't strike you. you will learn how to defend against striking both on the ground and stand up.

If you train in brazilian jiu jitsu (I do), the primary thing you'll learn is how to out grapple someone else, through achieving take downs or pulling someone down to the guard position, escaping inferior positions when controlled, achieving dominant and controlling positions, and setting up submisissions where the person you're wrestling must tap out or have a joint broken, tendons torn, or be choked unconcious.

You WILL gain the ability to do these things while grappling with someone who is trying their hardest to control you, submit you, and stop all of your plans from working.

Draw your own conclusions on how useful this is. I'll tell you this, it's a lot of fun.

Well. A mate of mine does BJJ. He also knows some striking, and I guess is sorta doing MMA. Anyway. Point is. He's a bouncer at some of the pubs and clubs around here, and often uses his skills as a grappler to bring people to the ground, quite easily. I think he might have even broken someones arm at one point.
