has this been covered before?
i think jet lee is a better martial artist that bruce lee. i know i'm going to get alot of angry bruce-ist's telling me i'm mad and so forth but if you watch bruce's old movies, yea he's good, very good, but jet is better. he is faster, he flows better, his moves look better on screen and did you see him in 'cradle to the grave'?

i await the bruceist wrath, and jet-ists please come in on my side.

Jet Li would kick Bruce Lee's ass to the moon and back. The man's been dead for more than twenty years. Let the guy rest in peace.

They can't be compared.

Since this is in the movies section than I'm going to make more than the usual boring.......
.....

blah is better than blah because......

In short I thought Bruce Lee was the better actor, the screen presence of theman was amazing.

Jet Lee doesn't come close, regardless of ability.

Jet Li's website is pretty good and he tells us how he became so brilliant. www.jetli.com im a fan!

my vote goes to him, altho i do believe that they cant be compared as they both have their own style :) (And ive just contradicted my self) :p :D

Well, acting wise, Jet Li is better. I think mostly because of higher budgets, more reality in his movies and much higher quality scripts than Bruce had to work with. Physically, they can't be compared since they had two much different styles of MA. No flaming please from you Bruce Lee fans.

Cant compare 2 people when 1 is dead. its unfair on Bruce lee.

but if you really must know. Bruce lee had a better physical body than Jet li does(Jet li has admited to having a horrible body, thats why he doenst show it very often). Bruce lee has trained in more styles(Tai chi, Wing chun etc). Wushu is more of a sport/school style anyway.

You cant compare like that judojedi. Jet li was brough up by the country, he had the best peers and coach to train him to what he is. Plus his main background is wushu, that is just more suitable for movie making. Plus there from different generation, I mean Jet Li grew up watching Bruce Lee's film. Bruce Lee on the other hand had Wing Chung back ground as base, that is more traditional none flashy like wushu. Plus your talking about fight choregraphing here, the film done now days compare to old days just isnt fair.

I think people are being a bit unfair to Jet's fighting skills here he trained from a young age and wushu can incorporate many different aspects of course it can look flashy but all this comparing of the living and the dead is madness

Bruce Lee was a martial arts genius.
Jet Li is an eco in my opinion.

Kof_Andy has said a lot of the main points here.
Jet is a product.
Bruce grew up without the help in martial arts. And even though in many films, he was turned down because he was Asian, he kept pushing forward.
Jet lee has it easy thanks to Bruce.

I think Jet Li looks up to Bruce Lee immensely.

Judojedi - Some things about your post…

"...if you watch Bruce’s old movies"
Yes, if you watch his OLD movies, the standards are a lot higher now and Li has more resources.

..."he is faster"
He only looks faster because Bruce Lee had to slow down for the cameras to catch his movements :P It's true
And he only seems faster because we have better quality cameras now, capable of catching higher speeds.
Not to mention the invention of bullet time, which makes him look A LOT faster!

"...he flows better"
Better quality cameras, digital editing technology. And Bruce Lee fought with fist and foot, and the occasional weapon, be it improvised or proper.
Jet li on the other hand, do to his higher resources can produce scenes in which his hits a billiard ball up in the air, only to land, and jump again, deliver a kick in which the ball proceeds to travel straight into his assailants head…..
Note: That’s all in bullet time, and it used a harness and a blue screen. (I saw, “The Making of”

"...his moves look better on screen "
So, because it looks better, it must be a better, more powerful and faster technique? And again, better camera quality and BULLET TIME.

Conclusion : You cannot judge someone’s skill on how they appear on screen, especially over such a length of time.
AND Bullet time is the ultimate evil and deceives us by making this appear much cooler and faster than they really are.

Ok ok...

I know I said they can't be comapred, but what are we comparing them with?

Fighting skill?
Martial Art ability?
Acting talent?
Philosophy?
Personality?
Fitness?
Front teeth?

Answer and I'll throw in my input ;).

We'll compare them on a martial arts based level. So that would include:
Martial Art ability
Fighting Skills
Fitness
Philosophy
Front teeth, or lack there or :P

Opinion Only. And speculation.

Like I said, they can't be compared. Two completly different people.

Martial Arts Ability - Jet Li
Fighting Skills - Bruce Lee
Fitness - Toss up
Philosophy - Toss up

Presumably everyone commenting has seen all of the footage of Bruce, and every film made by Jet?

They're both men who have acheived much in their lives.

Aspire to their acheivments, but please don't compare them.

Yes, I agree. My initial post was for these reasons -more or less.

Can we let the thread go now?

Like my Dad used to say, comparisons are odious!

Thread locked. RIP
