Hi all,

I'm taking up kickboxing (regular Kickboxing, not Muay Thai) in a week or two, once I've had the all clear from the docs on my injury.

Basically, what I'd like to know is...

What sort of equipment will I need? I do karate now, we more or less turn up with hand and feets mitts and thats it. Will I need to buy womens boxing gloves, or will mens ones do? Is there even a difference?

Do you think it will go well with the kyokushinkai karate I'm doing?

How fit will I need to be starting out? I'm just coming off an injury, and haven't trained for months.

Any other general information about it would be useful too. Thats about all I can think of for now... If I have anymore questions, I'll be back with them

Would go pretty great, will take some time to get used to the face punches though ;)

About the equipment you might have to buy it from them....or they will hand it out to new students, or maybe you will have to get it by yourself, if that's the case I think any kind of gloves would be fine I was never aware of women's gloves :o

Have fun training,

I'm already reasonably well aquainted with a jump rope, although I do suck at skipping :D

I'm assuming there are womens gloves, as the pair I have now says "10oz Mens" on the side. Women also usually have smaller hands than men, so it would make sense. These ones feel a little big on me :(

Also fairly well acquainted with that too, unfortunately.

Your guard will probably need to change slightly and it's a little more up on the feet if you know what I mean but you'll slip pretty easily from KKS into kickboxing....no major philosophical conflicts between the two.....after all some of the worlds best kickboxers came from KKS - Andy Hug, Francisco Filho etc

Get yourself some shinpads!!!! Try "vipers" - expensive at about 35 quid but well worth the investment
