Ive just taken a knee injury. I thought I had strong knees. I was thrown by leg throw but a weird variant whereby pressure is jerked along the edge of the joint. It sort of felt as if the joint itself was being prised apart. On the ground he then put me into an ackilles tendon lock with his heel on the siatic nerve in the other leg then used a torsional twist again on the knee to turn me onto my back -sit back and apply a spine lock. My knee was in quite poor shape at this point.

The I went to throw someone with body drop to have that person crashing down on the side of your knee.

I was wondering two things. Knee protection in body drop any ideas?
secondly knee twists are almost as sensitivce as bent arm wrist locks - at least thats how it felt; - what can you do to moderate the pain

Do you wear kneepads?

This is why you should turn your heel upwards with a body drop: that way if someone falls on your leg it's at least forcing it in a direction it already likes to bend in. In addition, it gets your hips more into the movement and therefore increases the available power for ther technique.

As for knee protection, not sure really. I trained in Judo for quite some time and never wore knee protection, but then Judo doesn't have leglocks....

I agree w/ Aegis. Where I'm training, we don't do Tai Otoshi that way anymore. You can also use the rotational tork of turning that leg knee-down / heel-up to add energy to the throw. ( much the same thing Aegis said)

As for the knee locks, I don't quite follow your discrip. Was it applied from behind so that you fell face down? If you are fairly new at this, let your partner know of your injuries and that they need to ease up a bit until you get more feel for going w/ the flow.

Watch joint injuries closely. If you get any swelling (even a little), have it looked at by your doctor.
