Hopefully I'll be in the red belt category this year, and hopefully I'll be bringing home many medals :) I can't really practice tourny stuff outside of the dojang apart from my forms, which I usually practice at the gym in the fitness studios because it is the only other time I can.

I'm just moving out of that catergory (into brown belt) but if you have the same people in your catergory that i had last time you should have no problem ;) . I train 1:30 mins- 2 hours a day but i cant really practise techniques and sparing outside classes as none of my friends do martial arts.

If any of you end up judging in my ring, I'm the Asian looking one with the very short shaven hair. :D

This will be my first tournament, so I have no precedent to go on training-wise.

At least part of it will have to focus on tidying up my Dae Geup Hyung, which basically means tidying up my spin kicks, esp. the low ones.

In general, I need to be fitter and my stabliser muscles are in dire need of attention, to the detriment of everything I do, so lots of aerobic and abdominal exercises, I guess.

oooooh nick has a kick...... whats that then????

just been thinking airnick and do you realise we have known each other for like 15yrs we see each other regulary and the last time we sparred was over 10 years ago i reckon.... it was the same night when all 4 of us took on kjn hart and only got one good attack on him when we all did a side kick at the same time from 4 different angles :D

You know it, my trusty side kick off the front leg that I rely on ALL the time.

oh nick.... what were you drinking on that korea trip..... i mean the tourny venue was an olympic village but we were a long long way from rome buddy. maybe that jump spin kick did more harm than we think it did.... :D :D :D :D :D

Dave.... matts new side kick tech is old school, he's way behind the times..... LOL still the kick is effective but there are ways of beating it.... like blocking it with a knuckle duster under your sparring glove.... LOL :D Joking as a official referee i cant tell you to do that...... lol

When I asked Kyo Sa Nim what he did, he said normal training year round. All I can guess by that is that maintaining the skills must be easier than figuring them out in the first place.

The March Texas Tourney was my first tournament after finishing grad school, so I came in and trained six days a week. But with that, I tried to make a point of keeping Sunday an "off" day for recovery.

Tuesday-Thursday, the Advanced class is the last class of the evening, so a lot of times I'd go over my forms or staff spinning two or three more times after class, five or ten minutes.

If you have the instructors and assistants to do it, we usually divide into rings and actually practice it tournament style. In practice like that, the judge's scores are always 10's, but we also give feedback on specific things that can be improved.

Well.... in the UK tournament season is approaching again and i was wondering what was everyones normal training regimes...... what you do? how often? when do you start etc.....???

Anyone moved up a category this year? maybe we can help....!
