Hi,
I did TKD for a couple of years but left as it was too sport orientated and not geared towards self defence. I managed a few classes of Hapkido which was better suited to me and i enjoyed them. Had to give them up due to a 100 mile round trip to class!!
I think that Kuk Sool may be suited to me and id love to give it a go.
Does anyone know of any good classes in or around the Northwest UK in Manchester or as near as poss?
Cheers
:)

there is a fantastic master (master john watson) teaching in liverpool, if you can make it over there, i would greatly recomend it.
check out the school links at www.kuksoolwon.com they have a full listing of all the uk schools, maybe you can find something closer

the joint locks, throws, breakfalls and pressure points are similar, but it has way more weapons, including swords, staffs, fans, canes, spears, throwing knives, archery ect. and the high level forms are beautifull. if you can make it down to birmingham nec for seni on the 6&7 may we will be doing a couple of demo's on both days, and you will get to see a bit more of whats in kuk sool.

The only 2 schools I know of in North West are ours (Widnes) and Liverpool. Both are great schools (the Liverpool school is bigger than ours). My instructor trains under the Liverpool master (KJN John Watson) and I hear extremely good things of his instruction (I haven't had the pleasure to train under him yet). The KSW demo at SENI will show you what the art involves and I'm sure you'll like it. :)

I think the Liverpool one is closer to me, even if it is about 35 miles away  ..... but its something that i think might suit me.
I've been looking for somthing to do for ages since i quit Teakwondo and Hapkido was too far away. This sounds a more round MA and focused more on self defence that a lot of the others.
I've emailed master john watson, see what he has to say, then hopefully will be off to not so sunny Liverpool very soon for my first KSW lesson :D

The phrase "Oh god heaven help you" i have to say i dont find all that encouraging lol
As long as I dont spit teeth or break anything that i shouldnt its all good :p
Supposed its benificial for woman to train with men, i always found that alot of the female member at TKD were really gentle and unrealistic when doing release tech etc. Where as lads had this whole "dont want to get beat by a girl" happening so would try harder making you know if you had done the tech correct or not.
Gonna try to have a test drive down this weekend and hopefully go along to the Monday class
Bring it on :D !!

Monk Thought you were warning me of the boys. Think it will be heaven help us all if when I go to Liverpool, mainly heaven help all the other drivers on the M62 -
I may say a pray for them before i set off
From what everyones said sounds like a great place to go - cant wait
Just waiting for conformation details, times, venue etc from Master Watson, emailed him yesterday not heard back yet - think my emails a bit screwy at the mo.
Will give him a ring if i've not heard by Sunday :)
Id be looking to go training twice a week, if the website upto date its split over 2 venues, one on a Monday and one on a Wednesday.
Gonna clock me up some milage on my car :D
