Max Payne 2 is coming october 15th!!! :D
Sorry, could'nt resist :)
Though I doubt half life 2 will be as good with the first one......I dunno, it always happens with the movies, the sequel is worst than the original (T3 :D)

Cain, you jest! Sequels suck but your waiting for Max Payne 2! Did Doom 2 suck? Quake 2? (Quake 3?) Return to Castle Wolfenstein? How about Doom 3?
Half-Life 2 will rock like never before. Right up there with Doom 3 for advanced technology. When's Doom 3 out?

whoa, that blows me out the water :)
Too scary for ya? ;) I don't get how it sucked: it was the same as Doom except bigger and harder
It was the first game I played networked with 3 mates (yeah, back in the days when I had 3 mates). A landmark in my gamepley experience.
Programmatically, ID Software and Valve are the acme of the art of 3D engines on desktop machines. Valve licensed the ID Quake 2 engine and revamped it to more than equal the superb Quake 3 engine. Valve's new Source engine is beautiful to behold and will more than satisfy my eye-candy requirements for the next year. Check out the "Source High-Dynamic Rendering" demo they released.

The Doom series sucked 'cause of it's story, gameplay, atmosphere etc, I mean you can't argue the story was lame ;)
But no other game till date has matched the eye candy of Doom 3!
I loved Max Payne because of it's pure action sequences like Bullet time and features straight out of a John Woo movie, BTW did I say that Max 2 is using the havok 2 physics engine? Yep there's going to be lip synching and realtime motions compared to those simple textures used in max 1
Half life 2, even after 4 years the game's still sitting on my HDD, damn man was it the best one in terms of the storyline with the atmosphere matching perfectly, and even though exploisions were actually simple sprites it was hard to say it 'cause the whole thing looked too real :D
But look at what they did with opposing force and blue shift which IMO were not as good as the priginal, it had better live upto my expectations, I just hope they don't concentrate too much on graphics...

What's an Xbox? :D ;)
I didn't notice the story in the Doom series. :) And I must admit that ID's use of monsters is mostly quite uninspired despite being well executed. HL Blue Shift & Opposing Force were just half-baked expansions.
I prolly won't get Doom 3, no matter how groovy it looks I expect it's going to be very dark. I didn't spend a packet on fancy video cards only to have a black screen in front of me. Dark bits in movies and dark games just get turned off.

I have the *cough* alpha version, all I can say is my pc will be just barely be able to run it at about 9 fps at 400x300 resolution on my gf2 mx400, 256MB and athlon xp 1800+ :(

wossat d3 or hl2? The GF2MX400 is getting a bit old now. I had a 32MB version but it wouldn't cut it so I replaced it 6months ago.
And if you really mean alpha version, that won't be optimised for speed at all. Rest assured it'll run much faster when they strip out all the unnecessaries.

It's D3 with 3 levels, the graphics quality rocked the hell outta me! I have never seen better shadows in my life
Either way I hope they will support gf2s in the final version though, it's filled with 64 megs of RAM.....you could be right about alpha not optimised for speed that's what I thought too...

I heard somewhere that hl2 was coming out for pc.
Of course, first they will consider PC and then the console versions, it would be silly not to do that after what they had got with hl1 for pcs :D

Personally, I don't want them to rush with HL2, as is well documented history, HL 1 was pushed back just slightly over a year - and look what a difference that made! The extra year was not only for the single player campaign, but for the multi-player stuff!
As of right now, I'm still an 'elite' Firearms player (one of the many internet mods) for HL1, so I don't care how long they take with HL2, the proof is in the pudding with me still playing HL1 mods. It'll be worth all the time they take with it. Hell, how much more fun can a video game get? I already have ridiculous amounts of fun playing The Specialistis and Firearms online.

i just watched the 23 min preview of HL2...and by the gods!!!!...it looks fantastic.
i even think it will blow doom 3 out of the water..it appears that the interactive physics of the game are exceptional and the cell shading and lighting are superb...i can't wait to get it.
though it does look a bit scary.!!!!!!!
