View Full Version : Hell

I read in a few other threads some peoples ideas on hell. Someone said that it was a place of infinite pain and suffering... Which isn't exactly true. The Catholic view on Hell is that it is a place, or state, rather, that is devoid of the presense of God. Without God's presense that you feel everywhere on earth(our emotions, perhaps? Love, friendship, valor, etc.) you would feel an great emptiness and lonliness.

Thoughts?

I thought that was the whole idea of purgatory?

The Bible clearly refers to Hell as a realm of flames and suffering. But I stated my opinion in the original thread.

Ive never actually thought of what hell would be like, or even heaven either.
But i must say, im terrified of imagining an "eternal sleep" that would come if theres no after life.

Personally i think having to spend eternity listening to the ravings of evangelical fundamentalist 'creation scientist' sounds very much like my idea of hell. Especially if you can't shut themn up or at least hit them form time to time.....

Purgatory is the place between heaven and hell where you dont deserve to go to either.

I think that the implication is that this 'emptiness' is worse suffering than burning in fires. Either way, the whole "ultimate God of love giving ultimate harshest punishments" doesn't make any sense to me.

I think this sums it up...

Heaven is ...

Where the police are British,
The cooks are Italian,
The mechanics are German,
The lovers are French and
It's all organized by the Swiss.

Hell is ...

Where the police are German,
The cooks are British,
The Mechanics are French,
The lovers are Swiss and
It's all organized by the Italians.

I'm so tempted to use a "your mum" joke here, but I suspect that it would actually be a breach of the ToS, and as a mod I'm not meant to do that :p

Well remember, the Bible is more symbolic than a history and fact book. It could easily mean, as was said before, that teh emptiness without God is as bad, or worse, than burning forever.

So that would theoretically mean anyone not associating with god is automatically in hell. Even if he is alive on this planet at this very moment. You don't even have to be dead to be in hell.

It would be even more hellish is they made the English use the American ‘cookies’ instead of its British charm packed sire ‘biscuits’.

:p cook-ie is just too descriptive; biscuit is a big bouncer of a word

Too right! And what’s up with 'yall' and 'have a nice day' and the hideous phrase 'Oh my god' which I believe breaks one of the commandment of not taking the name of the lord in vain.

In Heaven they look like this:

In Hell, they're two slices of bread with some severed fingers between them. Oddly enough, I coudn't find any pics of the latter on Google.
