I just started a taijutsu class. The first activity was practicing rolls.
I experienced nausea, some dizziness and slight headache after doing the rolls. Also felt the same way when doing takedowns. By end of class was feeling pretty sick. Driving home, had difficulty with depth perception.

Have practiced a few rolls since the class and feel the same lightheadedness.

Any ideas on cause or suggestions on how to avoid? My wife suggests vertigo. I am thinking possibly some sort of inner ear thing.

Yeah, I'd agree with the inner ear thing. Suggest you see a Doctor straight away and do some tests. There are so many things it could be caused by and I don't want to unnessarily worry you but none of the things that spring to mind are good.

Let us know how things turn out.

Yes, I would definitely see a doctor. If the doctor finds nothing wrong, keep in mind that holding your breath and being tense during rolls and takedowns can cause dizziness. In class, we're always told to relax when rolling and falling, and to exhale when hitting the ground. This helps. That being said, I have an occasional vertigo problem due to an inner ear condition, and it hasn't had that big an effect on my training. There's just the occasional day I have to go easy on the rolls. But do see the doc.

And this is my 200th post.

Dizziness is I think normal, but those headaches are out of the way man....check out with your Doc.

Also you may be doing something wrong, notify your instructor about the problem though....
