This question is mainly for the Lau Gar people, but I would appreciate input from anyone else who can help.

I've recently began the orange sash syllabus in Lau Gar & was wondering about your opinions on the downward thrusting fuksau type thing, followed by the upward arc fuksau in 'Jorn Sau'.
(sorry about the description, I don't know what else to call it).

In class we have been taught the rising fuksau can be used to lift the chin to expose the throat for the heun sau, jum sau type strike which follows immediatly after in the form. Is this the only reason the fuksau is thrust downwards (to set up the upward chin strike) or does it have other uses?

which Lau gar club are you attending?

i only ask as i know of only 2 in the area...and i run one of them...

as for your query....i use the *** sau as a deflection or downward block of an approaching arm and the Upward movement as a strike to the chin...but thats only my opinion.

if you want to pop down the club ( In irvine) your more than welcome.

Thanks Greyghost.

I'm training at the Three Dragons in Forresters Hall in Ayr with Alan Henderson (as you'll already know).

I was practicing Jorn Sau earlier & I just counldn't stop thinking about the purpose of the downward movement & the only thing I could think of was a crane head strike with the back of the wrist but this didn't explain the direction of the movement.
I wouldn't be able to ask Alan about it until tuesday night.

Which brings me nicely to your invitation, which night does the Irvine club train? I'd love to come along but I've got a nasty feeling it's a tuesday, the same as the Ayr club.

Lord, that brings back memories Fraser :D

Re: Jorn Sau, there's a book to be written on this form alone.

The sequence you refer to starts with Pak Sau deflecting, then travelling forwards along the arm of the opponent before returning and dropping into the **** sau (Good Lad, been doing your homework), in Lau, look at this as a dynamic clearing of the guard with the upwards return of the **** Sau being a strike, though I personally believe this form has it's origins in Siu Nim Tao of Yip Mans Wing Chun, and there is no drop, or descent of the ****.

That's one explanation, check it out in Chi Sau if Alan's started you on this. The whole form is short range, and this is the best place to play with it.

Good Luck

Andy

Cheers Andy.
I'd been looking at a Wing Chun book recently & noticed some of the similarites between Jorn Sau & Siu Nim Tao. It was partly because of the differences between the two forms in respect to this movement that got me thinking in the first place.
We haven't started Chi Sau yet but I'll ask Alan about it on tuesday night.

Greyghost, could you give me some directions to Fullertons Hall, I don't really know my way round Irvine very well. Would it be near the Fullerton roundabout by any chance:confused:

I'd say that just about gets me there. I've seen the church at the mall before so I shouldn't have any problems finding you.
Thanks.

Greetings all,

Apologies for waking this thread up but I'm doing some rehab work and I'm trying to find an image walkthrough of Jorn Sau so that I can remember the steps I've forgotten!

There are no instructors near me so I was after a walkthrough to get back in practise at home. Can anyone help finding this info?! Thanks.

Actually, yeah. I wrote a complete walkthrough for a member here a long time ago. Gimme a mo to trudge through my document folder and I'll mail it to you!
