Is anyone out there doing any serious Palm Training?

Are you talking about dropping your hand on sand bags and rocks, or something else? I use something called a power web to build up strength in the hand. It is a great little device that comes in several different strengths. The power web replaces some of the traditional training methods were you use a bucketful of rice to work the hands. Finger tip push ups are also a regular part of my routine. I also do lots of weapons work for hand and wrist strength.

I regularly do fingertip pushups to help build the strength in my hand as well as the following:
sohm soo li ki (spreading of the fingers) while driving to work as well as watching tv, in fact time I don't need to use my hands!
palm striking a block of concrete in my back garden.
Also got a palm striking routine that I do against football (soccer) goal posts in my local park.
Sometimes also got to a swimming pool and do palm techniques under water.
Anyone got any other suggestions???

Kjn Simms used to put his hand in a bucket of rice and slowly spread his fingers in and out. Can't think of any others.

Oh yeah just remembered a few others that I read in an article from KJN Song from Florida.
holding a staff at the end and throwing it over like your casting out a fishing line.
standing in a horse stance while holding a brick in each hand by your fingertips.

Not on my own, purposely, as an isolated exercise.
We do the wrist conditioning pushups, including on fingertips, pretty much every class. KJN says that nak bub is full-body conditioning, and brown belts up are supposed to do nak bub on every technique.
Once in a while in BBC we'd use the big PVC pipe for palm conditioning, but that's been a while.

I would not suggest hitting your hand on anything without the proper hand medicine. It is used to stop your blood from clotting internally.

Good Idea For those of you who want to do that ask Master Harmon for some of his homemade medicine .... it is a lot stronger than the commerical stuff and a lot cheaper.

It seems to be legal, KSN Debbie brought some to Korea last year.

Here's (http://www.kenponet.com/flame/business/general/gen_ddj.html) one recipe for dit da jow. I believe one poster on MAP, Plum Flower, makes and sells it as well.

What is this hand medicine supposed to do? I see the poster mention that it prevents blood clotting and my eyebrow goes up.

It increases blood flow to, say the hand, an injured joint/muscle/or soft tissue to help the repair process go faster. In hand training you "damage" your palm so the muscles and the skin will toughen. The linament helps with repairing. It also is wonderful for bruises/sprains/ and strains.

I have some aged jow I could part with if you want to buy. They say that the longer your jow is soaked the better it is. Before and after palm training I rub it in. I have only had bruising once when I was training ( didn't end it with jow rub ) had a deep bruise on the back of the hand. I applied the jow several times the next day following day it was gone.

One big mistake people make when initially starting palm conditioning is that they actually hit a brick/stone/concrete with full force. Initially, when you are starting, you should let your hand fall naturally to the object until you build your initial calluses up. Striking the object too hard before your hand is conditioned can lead to micro-fractures or worse and cause you some severe arthritis in your later years.

I've never done palm training, but I regularly do knukle training. In TKD breaking techniques were a much bigger deal than they seem to be in KSW. Anyway, knuckle pushups, knuckle pushups, knuckle pushups... can't say it enough. Helps build bone density. Then you can punch through a cinder block =)
