http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology

How true is this? I know it's wikipedia so not 100% reliable.

I thought the story of Jesus is a bit of a stretch, but this takes the biscuit:

Among these advanced teachings, one episode that is revealed to those who reach OT level III has been widely remarked upon in the press: the story of Xenu, the galactic tyrant who first kidnapped certain individuals who were deemed "excess population" and loaded these individuals into space planes for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). These space planes were said to have been copies of Douglas DC-8s, with the addition of rocket engines. :eek: He then stacked hundreds of billions of these frozen victims around Earth's volcanoes 75 million years ago before blowing them up with hydrogen bombs and brainwashing them with a "three-D, super colossal motion picture" for 36 days, telling them lies of what they are and what the universe should be like and telling them that they are 3 different things: 'Jesus, God, and The Devil.' :cry: :woo: The traumatized thetans subsequently clustered around human bodies because they watched the motion picture together, making them think they are all the same thing, in effect acting as invisible spiritual parasites known as "body thetans" that can only be removed using advanced Scientology techniques. Xenu is allegedly imprisoned in a mountain by a force field powered by an eternal battery. BWAHAHAHA!He is said to be still alive today.

Mostly personality stuff like how confident are you talking to new people etc. It was all multiple choice so they could add up the scores easily. Then they give you a printout graph of the different facets of your personality, then tell you how much better you could be with them. I scored pretty well on most of it, so they complained theat my scores needed to be more in line with each other so i was more balanced. There was a lot of celebrity name dropping too.

Moved to religion, though I'm somewhat wary of putting this insane rant in here... ;)

Seriously, all of the evidence that I've seen to do with scientology screams at me that it's a dangerous cult I'd do well to stay away from. This is my opinion, not stated as fact (good way to avoid a lawsuit :D)

Yes, it is. Such cults are called football, soccer, baseball, karate, kung fu, military, jogging club, fitness club, christianity, islam, capoeira, cars, drugs, gangs, love, music, cigaret, so on, so on, so on.......the list doesn't end.

Stupid fad cult. Anyone that is in anyway associated with them should be exterminated. I know where the crusades should be sent this time. Hell maybe the Muslims can help us and wage a Jihad against them.

My ex got asked to answer some questions by some scientologists. It involved her holding some tubes and answering questions. She made up a load of crap and the guy "reading her" said things like "oh, I can tell by the way your soul is resinating" or crap to that effect.

Tom Cruise is an ignorent [censored]. I feel soo sorry for his wife, and anyone that is subjected to his stupid rants. I'd knock him out if he tried to convert me.

Wasn't scientology originally a piss take? to quote someone on another forum :

L Ron Hubbard : "Hi, I think the quickest way to make a million dollars is to make up your own religion"

America : "Thats nice, but surley people will see through it"

<1 year later>

L Ron Hubbard : "Hello, join my Church of Sceintology, give me all your money"

America : "Did you just make that up to make money, like you said you would"

L Ron Hubbard : "no"

America : "Cash or Check?"

<a few months later>

America : "So whats this sceintology all about then"

L Ron Hubbard : "Sorry can't take your call right now i'm busy on my luxuary yatch full of nublie young women. Feel free to never call again"

Being a good conman is one thing, telling someone your going to con them first, then doing it. That takes a genius.

Why does L. Ron Hubbard gets a propper cult and star trek doesn’t.

I think because Mr. Ron L. Hubbard already was well known through the book and Hollywood industry (he made that bad sci fi movie with John Travolta some years back: "3000 AD" )so basically he could just play of that. Get the right celebrities involved-aka Tom Cruise-and bingo a marketing scheme becomes a religion.

But looking at Star Trek, that has already reached near cult status: There are conventions where ppl dress up like the TV characters attended by the actors of the series and there even is an official dictionary of the Klingon language: http://soultrek.net/faq/klindictionary.htm

I began reading up on Scientology because of this thread. From what I've read, Hubbard comes across as a paranoid psycho.

Yossarian
18-Feb-2006, 10:52 AM
I read up on Scientology a while back just out of curiosity and its totally mad. L ron Hubbard was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, as well as a compulsive lyer. There are ex scientologists out there who have spilled the beans as a warning to others. These people face constant harrasment from scientologist lawyers and members.

They have a policy called fair game which means anyone who criticises them will have their lawyers set on them, harrased and even killed. Although they claim they have dropped the killing part of that policy due to bad publicity. You also have to work for them for practically no money to advance through levels. When you get to the higher levels they tell you about the aliens and once youve worked for them enough they will remove the alien souls from your body.

Its not just America either, you will find these nuts in most western countries. If someone stops you on the street and asks if you want a free personality test, they are most likely scientologists.

Thats true concerning it not only existing in America. We have a "Church of Scientology" center actually here in Richmond in the UK. I was surprised the first time I saw it because I did originally only expect them to exist in the US. Guess Ron Hubbards influence and money carried his word though far beyond that country.

I checked out the personality test on that site and I have to say thats a good marketing plot: Advertise it to be taken FREE OF CHARGE (instead of 500 $)on the internet BUT on the condition that you only get to see some lines. In order to actually find out what they mean you have to go to a center. Obviously a good way of luring ppl in.

Scientology isn't just a stupid fad, it's also been engaged in numerous illegal activities, which you can find out about somewhere on that site. Do a search for "operation freakout" - where scientologists tried to get someone committed to a mental institution by faking bomb threats from that person. This isn't just a case of the actions of a few scientologists - it's the actions of the people in charge of running the cult.
