basically, you start out with a lot of weight... i think about 100 kg of pebbles in it... you walk around the edges, each day removing some, until finally you can walk it while it's empty... that's the general idea

So the idea is to not crush the bamboo?

ok, I gotta ask one last time.

does anyone know where I can find a basket with the dimensions above (five feet wide or so) to use for ching gung training?

and to those who want to know the use for this, it is to cultivate ching (to make you lighter), and practice balance, etc.

please help me. thank you

I can't help you on the basket thing. I will back up that 've heard of a similiar training method for circle stepping in Bagua. The idea that a student would walk one the edge of a water barrel. On each rotation they would ladel water out of the barrel. As the barrel got lighter they would have to demonstrate better balance and weight distribution in order to keep the barrel up right.

Good luck finding a basket. Let us know where you can get one and how the training works out.
