My Dojang has a foam rubber training floor. I'm just curious as to what is the norm for most trining centers. The foam in very forgiving, so we can really toss each other around in training for ground fighting and ARC techniques.
What type of surface does your dojang have?

train on two diffrent kinds of floor...tuesdays on carpet and fridays on hard floor. both of which are in sports centers, but one of those things
regardless of the floor I still have to wear MA shoes for training

I train on foam mats that are spread out over the floor, I'm sure everyones seen them, they're about 8ft long 3-4ft wide, fold up etc.

ive always trained on carpet and let me tell you im impervious to rugburn at this point. Ill also train on the grass everyonce and a while, but theres nothing worse then doing a jumping kick and getting a good 4-5 feet in the air and landing on a small pebble, so i tend to do more mellow things on grass. I dont like training on hardwood because in my experience theres too much friction and you cant really turn that well. thats just me though.

our shihan has a 9000 dollar matt built in the dojo. 40 tiretrucks are placed underneath, then covered again by wood and foam on top. Doing falls on that matt has been a very forgivign experiennce
