Hi all,
My ex girlfriend doesn't have time to go to the gym anymore and asked me if I could give her any advice on a routine she could do at home, as long as its not more than half an hour long. The aim would be to lose a little weight and tone up a bit, not to increase muscle size, strength or endurance. Does anybody know of a routine that could be done with these conditions?
Thanks

i bet she wants results in a week or two? :bang:
cardio is the best plan of action, get her some running shoes.

Get her a skipping rope - unfortunately she may inadvertantly gain some fitness/endurance,
...sorry, can't be helped.

How about a fitness video. Most of the workouts tend to be broken down into chunks of a half hour or less. Plus, the presenter can be motivating.
Or annoying. Depends who it is.

lol mr motovator. yeh hes not annoying at all.
Anyway skipping is the answer, lose weight, tone up,core muscles and good cardio and fitness are just great side effects. unlikely you wil build big muscles skipping unless she is eating a hell of a lot more than shes burning.

Routine that is 1/2 hour long
Goal? Lose weight & TONE (sorry couldn't resist ;) )
Nice that you are doing this for your ex I might add ;)
Anyway, diet first and foremost for losing that little bit of weight ;) and then the cardio together with some other exercises to work the various areas like perhaps abs, legs and glutes? ;) ;) crunches/bicycles/leg lifts/lunges/squats
I see no reason why she wouldn't want to incorporate a small amount of weight training in there for some what I call definition rather than "tone" ... cardio and weight training work well together for faster results at burning fat.

Check your public library video section, there should be something there that could be of help...

Thank you all for your replies.
(By the way, I didnt mean that endurance, fitness etc weren't desired as a side effect, just that it shouldnt be the main aim of the excercises. :) )
I'll pass on your advice

I'd get her on an interval-circuit, such as: skipping, lunges, (small weight) overhead press, lateral raise, front raise, squats, etc... anything with small free weights for an interval time, combined with cardio should make for a good workout.

So basically she will have the same muscle to flab ratio forever? Do you know that with a little more muscle she can burn calories WAAY faster? Running is pretty boring if thats all you do... and its easy to give up when you're bored.
I like girls with some muscle on them.

How much TV does she watch? She could workout during her soaps.
1000+ routines could be written from any combination of body resistance exercises. To maximise 30 minutes then superset different or opposing muscle groups. Pushups and situps for example.
Throw in mountain climbers for endurance/cardio. Don't tell her to tuck in her shirt and you'll have a pleasent surprise. ;) Even better, get her an ab wheel and VROOM VROOM she can tear around, drag racing thru the house. Better Yet, if you have hardwood floors give her a towel and a can of Lysol. ZOOM ZOOM she's exercising and cleaning.
Girls are often concerned about their thighs and butts. I'm quite concerned with girls thighs and butts too. I suggest introducing her to wall kicks. Grab up a piece of wall for balance and show her some basic roundhouse, side and back kicks. For additional enjoyment talk her into a Hooter's (http://www.hootersmagazine.com/) style tanktop and shorts, then tell her the benefits of mule kicks. Get her on all fours, kick one leg back and up, then return to the start position. More fun than watching the 6:00 news. :D

Who uses Lysol on wood floors???
I am a bit concerned at some of the other content of your post Crimson ;)

So Lysol isn't a household cleaning product after all. Well on the upside my bookshelves and furniture are quite germ free. Perhaps I will buy Pledge instead of Lysol. ;) It's a good thing I have three young ladies living in my house, they are far more knowledgeable than I.

Aye, those soap operas are certainly addictive.

She doesnt have any equipment, but that can change. I don't think she ejoys any kind of excercise to be honest, unless dancing in a club counts :)

Maybe dancing at a class, like Salsa?. Or some other classes like swimming, aerobics, Yoga. Or a hobby like mountain biking. Might be easier to stick to these rather than motivationg herself to go running..

i guess video tapes is up to individuals .. but imo i find watching a man with leotard tights doing strange excerises quite gay and gross
find out what ur ex likes maybe she likes group excerises? likes be outside? etc then go from there. maybe she will like to try something new - it all depends ...
for example i like cycling now cause of the fresh air and change of scenery... my bf and i will be advancing to mountain biking or cross country later - as we are currently building up our level of fitness and endurance first

My girlfriend wanted the same, I gave her a 15 minute aerobic routine, and some compound weight exercises. She hated the idea of the weights, saying she didn't want to look like a man, until I explained just how hard it is to built a noticable amount of new muscle without training hard for it.
