I go to karate three days out of the week and I find that my kicks aren't exactly where I want them to be. In class we do about 30 to 40 of each diffrent kick we know and my kicks are still not where I am comfortable kicking. Some people say thet its all in the flexibility and some say I have to do certain exra kicking exercises what do you think?

all you can do is just work on it. Dont give up on it.
I don't know how flexible you are. But, I can tell you, being really flexible(full split:)) really helps with the ease with which you can perform kicks. Not to say that you have to be really flexible to properly perform kicks, it just makes learning and performing them a great deal easier.

Its just repetition that can improve your kicks, some people require a bit extra flight time to get their kick how they want em. Maybe you should increases the number of each kick you do to 100. Practice at home.
Sometimes you can be too flexible, sounds daft i know but it can effect the way some kick perform in a detrimental way.
Its better to think your kicks are not up to srcatch cause then you will work em harder and they wil improve. Arrogance in a technique will not improve it.
I've got a few exercises to improve certain kicks, but they are style specific to thai, so not sure if they'd be of use to you.

I hear that control also plays a major part in how well you kick.

You have to do more than just take class, you have to train by your self or with someone else on the side. taking class in not enough. Also you have to train more than 3 times a week. Every time you take class you have to kick harder, stronger and faster than every one else. Or try to and remeber you are the way so don't rely on the teacher to always guide you.

get a mirror, and practise kicking air in front of it. don't go to the bags straight away, practise kicking air for a good 10 or 15 minutes, then go to the bags and feel the difference when your kick actually connects.
when you have done this for a while, you should be able to adjust your body and your aim. the mirror is a great tool for practise. get one.
