View Full Version : Nervous About My New Forms

My white, yellow, and orange belt forms were relatively easy in their own way, but I see what my new forms are and they look really tough. My white and yellow belt forms were a mix of basic breathing and falls. Then orange was all fals and rolls. But with green the forms remind me of Taijiquan a little bit, by the way it looks. And there are alot more forms too.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? How different the forms become?

The forms you practise are probably dojang specific as Hapkido has no forms. Check the source of your training, I believe you will find it is called Yong Mu Do from Yong In University, then ask your instructor.

Are you sure Hapkido has no forms? I didn't know that.
But you are correct about Yong In University! My Master went there. It's good that you picked that up.

No forms. He is correct. Forms are added based on instructor prefrence. In a traditional HKD dojang you will see no forms. Most of the schools that have them are TKD schools that teach HKD or some other hybrid form of HKD, or as I stated earlier, just cause they want to.

Ok, thank you. :)
I didn't know that. They say our forms have a purpose. The rolling and falls are so if we get pushed or knocked down. The breathing is so you can control it and not hypervenilate, and also to strengthen you abdomen area.

We do these things to, but not as part of a form, just as regular part of our training. Innitially I teach the break falls to the students, and when they arrive for class I have the senior belts strech and warm up with them and assist the lower ranks in their break falls. We all do our breathing exercises together.

Yes, origionally HapKiDo did not have any forms with DJN Ji. There are many HapKiDo systems that do contain forms. KukSool HKD, KongShinBup HKD, World HKD Fed under GM Myung, and others. My experience has proven that forms do help in the teaching and conditioning of proper HKD movement. They are sport specific exercises so the forms should match the style you are training in. If you are focusing on HKD training and performing TKD forms then the mix is not complementary.
Sincerely,

I think my forms do make me do the techniques more fluid.
Also we are under the Korea Hapkido Federation.

Hello all,
Stuart,
This group was part of a larger group that came here from Yong-In University. Not sure how they relate to the KHF, but check the group under a name like T-USA or TMA something like that. I would be interested if they have any affiliation myself.

Greetings,
The Korea Hapkido Federationdoes not have or require ANY forms.
I think you're NOT with the Korea Hapkido Federation
What's your teachers name?
No we ARE with the Korea Hapkido Federation. We are under them, and my master is actually in South Korea right now, testing for his 6th degree in Hapkido with the Korea Hapkido Federation.

Well my instructors did not go to Yong In University. My master did though. So my instructors actually had to learn forms from him.
Like someone said earlier, I think it was based off the personal opinion of my master.

Also check my web site under Instrs. and see what a KHF certification looks like and tell me if your masters or Intrs have the same certificate.
The cert on my site is the ONLY OFFICIAL KHF cert. If they don't have that they're NOT KHF.
Now nothings impossible but, I have never met any KHF school that teach any HKD forms which is a little strange, because all KHF is Ji Han Jae lineage and there's simply no forms in this system.
I looked at some t-usa sites and couldn't see anything that would indicate KHF like patches, uniforms, flags, etc?

A patch I wear on my uniform even says Korea Hapkido Federation. And the day I joined the main instructor told me they're under the Korea Hapkido Federation.
