Assalamu'alaikum and peace to all,
Have any of the forum members and guests here ever seen the documentaries made by Discovery channel or National Geographic channel?
For example, the two recently played Martial Arts series, Go Warrior (by Roland Osborne (?) ) and MArtial Arts/Deadly Arts (by Josette Normandeau).
I love seeing the different MA's shown but my question is when will Silat (whatever style/school) be 'recognized' to be documented and shown on these two global networks?
Has anyone ever tried to do so by contacting the networks or have produced a documentary on silat but was rejected or something??
Peace

Wa'alaikum salaam and God's Blessings be upon you Amirul,
It is nice to read your posts again.
I was in KL last week but only for a few hours transit on my way home to Jawa. Now the 21st century has descended upon my tiny village not far from the heartland of Setia Hati Terate and I am online once more.
It looks that the SH guys around here have been active for the last year as there are so many new concrete statues of pesilat and the SH sign all over the area.
I think that silat would make a great documentary and I hope that someone makes it soon. To do justice to silat it should be a few hours long though and not only one school or style. But a documentary of just one proper school wouold also be very interesting. How about Kuntau Tekpi KL? Bring a handycam along and make it like Blair's Witch Project?
Warm salaams to all,

Asalaam Aleikum Amirul and Kiai Carita,
Kiai, its good to see you here again. I seem to remember a Silat documentary of sorts from Pak Herman Suwanda showing different masters, schools, and training methods with english narration.
Brother Amirul, what about that Malaysian television series? Perhaps the BBC might be interested.
Or maybe what we need is a good weekly series like "Kung-fu" from the 70's only taking place in Southeast Asia. I think the gentleman from East-West studios could play the lead :D
Peace,
Kareema

well a few years back, one of Indonesian TV stations makes a series covering all Martial Arts in Indonesia. Some of them Silat schools. So we were lucky I guess. The problem is Silat is not mainstream and more like Aikido in appearance. So, until Silat has its own Steven Seagal..........
